Ask any fan where ‘Slow Horses‘ was filmed and the answer is refreshingly simple. Most of it happens in plain sight. The Apple TV+ hit, based on the novels by Mick Herron, plays out across a very real city, often using cafes, streets and businesses without disguising their names.

The exterior of the fictional Slough House is represented by 123 to 129 Aldersgate Street in Barbican.
The building carries a delicious bit of irony for a group of disgraced agents. The office windows sit above the Vecchio Parioli restaurant, which has featured in past series, and Lamb’s crew reaches the premises through a gated courtyard beyond a phone box. It is about as far from a glossy spy lair as you can get.
The production also plays a few tricks with the surrounding streets. The nearby 16 St John Street stands in as the alley behind the building, with CGI used to make the quieter street look busier. Fans who visit in person may notice the real thing feels a little sleepier than it does on screen.
MI5 Headquarters and Regent’s Park Illusions
If Slough House is the show’s grubby heart, then ‘The Park’ is its polished, intimidating brain. In ‘Slow Horses’, Regent’s Park is the location for the MI5 headquarters, called The Park, and parts of the set were filmed at Greenwich’s Old Naval College while exterior shots were CGI’d into the northern side of the park. In other words, one of the show’s grandest spaces is a piece of movie magic.
The real MI5 gets a different kind of mention. The actual MI5 headquarters is Thames House at 12 Millbank, on the west side of the Thames near Lambeth Bridge, and it is not open for tours. So the closest fans can get to the world of ‘The Park’ is a walk around Greenwich.
Then there is the underground base that fans keep asking about. Handa Walk underground car park is a legitimate parking lot in real life, and set designers dressed it with a glass wall and lighting rigs to create a subterranean headquarters. It is a neat reminder that the show’s budget goes into atmosphere rather than gadgets.

Once the action leaves the office, the series keeps roaming across the capital. In Season 2, Marylebone Station takes the spotlight during a tense chase involving former spy Dickie Bow, while 1 Cornhill becomes the centre of a chaotic protest orchestrated by Slough House. The anticapitalist protest scenes were shot at Lothbury, and Throgmorton Street is where Catherine Standish gets lost in the crowd.
Later seasons pushed even deeper into London’s landmarks. Production teams filmed Episode 5’s ambush scene on Gresham Street in Season 4, while King’s Cross and St Pancras International feature heavily, and Granary Square plays a key role in Episode 6. The Lighterman, a pub right on Regent’s Canal, set the scene for the season’s final showdown.
Fans who like their spy stories with a side of cafe culture have options too. Jackson Lamb covertly meets an old informant at the Barbican Launderette several times throughout the series. It is exactly the kind of everyday setting that makes the show feel so lived in.
Where Was ‘Slow Horses’ Filmed Beyond the Capital?
Not everything that looks like London actually is London. In Season 5, the opening shooting spree takes place on the fictional Abbotsfield Estate, which was filmed outside London on Harlow’s Bush Fair estate, with the towers of Canary Wharf visible in the background. Time Out notes the sequence involves two gunmen, an election campaigner and an otherwise unremarkable suburban shopping arcade.
Other productions bases stretch further afield. IMDb lists filming locations including Stroud in Gloucestershire and Dunstable in Bedfordshire, alongside London sites such as the Old Royal Naval College in Greenwich. The production has also used the sound stages at 3 Mills Studios in London, and locations across Oxford and the Cotswolds appear too.
The show shows no sign of leaving its home turf either. Season 6 continues to use London as a major part of its visual identity, combining studio work with recognizable locations across the capital and surrounding areas.
