Is a New “Black Widow-Related” Project in Development? Recent Reports Indicate as Much

Scarlett Johansson’s most recent appearance in the MCU was in 2021 ‘Black Widow.’ Directed by Cate Shortland, ‘Black Widow’ stars Scarlett Johansson in the titular role alongside Florence Pugh, David Harbour, and Rachel Weisz. The story follows Natasha as she confronts her past and reunites with her estranged “family” to take down the villainous organization known as the Red Room.

The movie received praise for its action sequences, character development, and performances, particularly from Johansson and Pugh, but it also started a nasty lawsuit between the actress and the studio. Scarlett Johansson filed a lawsuit against The Walt Disney Company in July 2021, alleging a breach of contract related to the release of the movie. Johansson claimed that Disney’s decision to release the film simultaneously in theaters and on the Disney+ streaming platform, under its Premier Access program, violated her contract, as her salary was tied directly to box-office success.

We never hoped to see another Black Widow project in development for several reasons, first, the fact that her character died, and second due to that lawsuit, but here we are.

The latest reports indicate that Scarlet Johansson is currently involved with Disney+ working on a top-secret project. The hint came from Courtney Baker, a creative executive at Marvel Studios, who recently updated her LinkedIn profile to reflect new developments or roles within the company.

Serve as an executive on the upcoming TV project Untitled Scarlett Johansson series for Disney+.

This doesn’t come off as too great of a surprise considering that both Feige and Scarlett Johansson confirmed in the past that she is working on something related to Marvel.

In a June 2023 interview with ComicBook, Scarlett Johansson discussed her involvement in a top-secret project.

It is still happening, [but] not currently because nothing is happening right now. We’re all sort of in this holding pattern as we wait out the writers’ strike and potentially our own guild strike, and so on and so forth.

We can assume now that almost all productions have restarted that the same can be said about Scarlett’s secret project. As far as the plot goes, or anything really, we can’t even start guessing due to having so little to go on.
