Is Chace Crawford Joining ‘Avengers: Doomsday’? Here’s What the Rumors Actually Say

Share:

Chace Crawford fans have been buzzing about a possible Marvel crossover, and the internet loves nothing more than a good superhero rumor. Between his current run as The Deep on ‘The Boys’ and his history with the Marvel casting process, it is easy to see why his name keeps popping up in conversations about ‘Avengers: Doomsday‘.

But before anyone starts imagining Crawford suiting up for the Russo brothers, it is worth separating what has actually been confirmed from what fans are simply hoping for.

‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Cast Confirmed So Far

Marvel has been unusually transparent about assembling this ensemble, rolling out a massive cast reveal through a livestream and a series of social media videos. The confirmed roster includes Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Paul Rudd as Ant-Man, Anthony Mackie as the new Captain America, Sebastian Stan as the Winter Soldier, Danny Ramirez as the new Falcon, Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, David Harbour as Red Guardian, Simu Liu as Shang-Chi, Letitia Wright as the new Black Panther, Winston Duke as M’Baku, Wyatt Russell as U.S. Agent, and Tenoch Huerta Mejia as Namor.

That list has only grown since. More recent tallies from Marvel’s own site add Robert Downey Jr, Chris Evans, Pedro Pascal, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Channing Tatum, Ian McKellen, James Marsden, Patrick Stewart, Joseph Quinn, Kelsey Grammer, Kathryn Newton, Alan Cumming, Hannah John-Kamen, Rebecca Romijn, Mabel Cadena, and Vanessa Kirby to the ensemble. Nowhere in any of these official reveals does Chace Crawford’s name appear.

There is also a returning face fans did not expect to see again so soon. Chris Evans is set to step back into the role of Steve Rogers, a surprise the film’s teaser confirmed in December 2025.

Chace Crawford’s ‘Captain America’ History Explains the Confusion

The reason Crawford’s name keeps surfacing alongside ‘Avengers Doomsday’ actually traces back over a decade, not to any new casting news. When the role of Captain America was first up for grabs in 2010, Chris Evans beat out a long list of actors who tested for the part, including John Krasinski, Garrett Hedlund, Michael Cassidy, Patrick Flueger, Scott Porter, Wilson Bethel, Mike Vogel, and Chace Crawford.

That old casting footnote has resurfaced repeatedly as Marvel content mills republish “who almost played Captain America” style retrospectives. With Evans now confirmed to return for ‘Avengers Doomsday’, that old story is getting fresh attention, and some fans appear to be conflating “Crawford once read for Cap” with “Crawford is in the new movie.”

There is a real difference between a decade old audition and an actual 2026 casting credit, and right now the evidence only supports the former.

‘The Boys’ Star and His Current Marvel Status

Crawford has spent recent years fully entrenched in the DC adjacent world of Amazon’s superhero satire. He is known for playing Kevin, also known as The Deep, in ‘The Boys’ from 2019 through 2026, as well as in the wider franchise the series has spawned. That is a very different superhero universe than the one Robert Downey Jr, Chris Hemsworth, and company are currently filming for.

Amazon Prime Video

There is no indication from Marvel, from the Russo brothers, or from Crawford himself that he has any involvement in ‘Avengers Doomsday’. The film’s production has been famously tight lipped about surprises. Directors Joe and Anthony Russo have discussed taking extra precautions to avoid spoilers, filming largely on soundstages and choosing locations specifically to prevent leaked photos.

Given how much secrecy is already baked into this production, it is not impossible that a surprise cameo could be waiting in the wings. Marvel has pulled off bigger surprises before, and the studio clearly loves stunt casting nostalgia, as proven by bringing back original ‘X-Men’ stars like Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen for this very film.

What Fans Are Hoping For

Speculation is exactly what it sounds like right now, speculation. If Marvel wanted to give fans a wink toward that old Captain America audition, casting Crawford in some smaller role, even a blink and you will miss it cameo, would be a fun bit of meta humor given how stacked this cast already is with reunions and callbacks.

It would also make sense given the sheer scale of what Marvel is attempting here. The film is being billed as bringing together beloved heroes from three distinct universes who are set on a collision course against an existential threat unlike anything they have faced before. With a cast this size, there is always room for one more surprise name to sneak into the credits before release.

For now, though, there is no verified casting news placing Chace Crawford anywhere near ‘Avengers Doomsday’. The connection people keep making is rooted in Marvel history rather than anything happening on set today.

‘Avengers Doomsday’ is scheduled to arrive on December 18, 2026, and between now and then, expect plenty more casting rumors to swirl before the truth is confirmed. Do you think Marvel should give Chace Crawford a wink to his old Captain America audition with a surprise Doomsday cameo, or should The Deep stick to his own universe entirely?
