Even though we have three more DC movies left to watch by the end of this year, many DC fans are already looking forward to mid-2025, when DCU will officially kick off with the release of James Gunn’s ‘Superman: Legacy.’ We are all anticipating this movie to see what kind of Superman James Gunn imagined for the soft reboot of DC Extended Universe.

We recently learned from THR that ‘Superman: Legacy’ won’t only introduce the newest live-action incarnation of Man of Steel and Lois Lane. It will reportedly also introduce a superhero team known as the Authority. As James Gunn previously announced, a movie based on the Authority team is also in development, and it’s set to be the second DCU movie. Therefore, ‘Superman: Legacy’ is expected to set up the stage for ‘The Authority’ by introducing the team (or a part of it) to the audience. That actually makes sense since ‘The Authority’ isn’t Justice League, and they aren’t so known among casual DC fans unfamiliar with the source material.

The leader of the Authority is expected to appear in ‘Superman: Legacy.’

KC Walsh recently posted that Jack Hawksmoor, also known as The God of the Cities, is expected to appear in ‘Superman: Legacy.’ It isn’t expected that the entire team would be introduced in ‘Superman: Legacy,’ but if Gunn’s next movie will introduce at least one member of the Authority, it makes plenty of sense for that to be Hawksmoor, who was the leader of the Authority from 2000 to 2005, and again from 2008 and 2010.

DC’s The Authority: Potential Release Date, Cast, Plot & More

In layperson’s terms, the Authority is something like the anti-Justice League, a team of superheroes with extreme methods who are willing to get the job done by any means necessary. DC Comics publishes the Authority comic books under the ‘Wildstorm’ imprint. Created by Warren Ellis and Bryan Hitch, the comic book was first published in May 1999. The founding members of the Authority are Jenny Sparks, the team’s original leader, Apollo, Midnighter, the Doctor, Angela Spica, Jack Hawksmoor, and Swift. Just like any other superhero team, the Authority’s roster changed from time to time.

John Cooper “Jack” Hawksmoor is known as the King of Cities. His powers come from the link with the city he’s currently in. So, the bigger the city is, the bigger his powers are. Warren Ellis and Tom Raney created the character, and he was introduced in ‘StormWatch’ Vol. 1 #37 in July 1996. Hawksmoor has been a member of both the Authority and Stormwatch during his history in comic books.

‘Superman: Legacy’ will kick off DCU on the big screen on July 11, 2025. ‘The Authority’ still has no release date set.
