James Tynion Celebrates Vertigo’s Return with New “Nice House” Series and More to Come

James Tynion IV, the acclaimed comic book writer, has shared exciting news about the return of DC Comics’ Vertigo imprint and his involvement in upcoming projects. Tynion, known for his work on The Nice House on the Lake, expressed his enthusiasm for Vertigo’s revival and his personal connection to the imprint.
“There’s a big line of Vertigo books cooking right now behind the scenes at DC Comics, and I’ve heard about a bunch of them and they are going to be really exciting,” Tynion revealed.
He reminisced about his early days in the industry, stating, “My comics career started as an intern at Vertigo, and when I first pitched Nice House, it was a pitch TO Vertigo before they decided to close the imprint.“
Tynion’s latest series, The Nice House by the Sea, serves as a sequel to his previous work and marks the first new title under the revived Vertigo banner. The series continues the eerie and thought-provoking narrative that fans have come to expect from Tynion and artist Álvaro Martínez Bueno.
The decision to publish under Vertigo holds special significance for Tynion, who stated, “In my mind Nice House has always been a Vertigo book. Now we get to say it right on the cover.
The return of Vertigo, announced at New York Comic Con, signifies DC Comics’ commitment to providing a platform for mature, creator-owned stories. The imprint, originally launched in 1993, was known for groundbreaking titles such as Preacher, Y: The Last Man, and Sandman. Its revival aims to continue that legacy, offering readers complex narratives that push the boundaries of the medium.
Tynion expressed his pride in being part of Vertigo’s legacy, saying, “Vertigo is why I make comics. I’m hugely proud to be a part of its legacy, and I’m glad that the rest of the Nice House saga will happen under that label.” As DC Comics prepares to launch more titles under Vertigo, fans can look forward to a new era of compelling storytelling that honors the imprint’s storied history.
