James Woods, a Vocal Trump Supporter, Condemns Trump’s “Distasteful” Remarks About Rob Reiner
James Woods, a longtime supporter of Donald Trump, has spoken out against harsh remarks made about director Rob Reiner following his death. Woods shared his thoughts during a Monday night appearance on Fox News, where he talked about his personal bond with Reiner and made it clear that political differences never stood in the way of their friendship.
During the interview with Jesse Watters, Woods said Reiner played a major role in saving his career at a time when work had dried up. Woods explained that being cast in Ghosts of Mississippi in the mid-1990s helped change his path in Hollywood. “Rob literally saved my career and really put me back on track,” Woods said, adding that Reiner stood up for him when others would not. “I went from basically being out of a job to getting an Academy Award nomination, and I give all the credit to Rob.”
Woods became emotional as he spoke about their relationship. He said people often questioned how the two could stay close given their opposite political views. Reiner was known as a strong liberal voice, while Woods has openly supported Trump for years. For Woods, that difference never mattered. “I judge people by how they treat me, and Rob Reiner was a Godsend in my life,” he said. “We loved each other. He was always on my side.”
He also pushed back on the idea that political disagreement should lead to hate. “Because you disagree with people doesn’t mean that you have to hate people,” Woods said. He described Reiner as thoughtful and respectful, even when they did not see eye to eye.
Woods also recalled Reiner’s reaction to the killing of conservative figure Charlie Kirk earlier this year. According to Woods, Reiner publicly condemned the violence. “I don’t care what your political beliefs are. That’s not acceptable,” Reiner said in his final interview, calling the act horrible. Woods said this showed Reiner’s character. “People said horrible things, and Rob did not,” he added.
Woods said he was angered by recent attacks on Reiner’s memory. “When people say horrible things about Rob right now, I find it infuriating and distasteful,” he said. “Did I agree with his politics? No. Did I love him as a friend, an artist, and a patriot? I absolutely did.”

Reiner and his wife, Michele Reiner, were found murdered in their Brentwood, California home on December 14. After their deaths, Trump posted comments on Truth Social blaming Reiner’s political views for his demise. Later that day, Trump repeated his criticism during a press conference, saying he was not a fan of Reiner and calling him bad for the country.
