Jason Biggs has spoken openly about a conversation he recently had with his son regarding one of the most infamous scenes in American Pie (1999), explaining how he decided it was finally time to address the topic directly rather than let other people do it for him.

According to Biggs, who discussed the moment on SiriusXM’s The Julia Cunningham Show, the conversation happened after his children started hearing references to the film and began asking questions he could no longer avoid.

“They kept hearing about American Pie and pie and [asking], ‘Daddy, what do you do with the pie?’ and I had to have a conversation with my oldest,” Biggs said. He added that both he and his wife, Jenny Mollen, decided it was better to explain things themselves rather than let the idea build through outside comments. “I actually showed him the scene. Jenny and I talked about this, and we were like, ‘We want to get ahead of this.’”

The actor said the timing felt unavoidable, especially as public reminders of the role continued to surface in everyday life. He recalled a moment in New York when a stranger shouted a crude reference to the film in front of his family. “We were walking in New York on the street and the boys were up ahead and thank god they did not hear it, but a guy walked past us all and literally screamed out back to me, ‘Hey, it’s the pie f—er,’ and I looked immediately at the boys,” he said. “They did not hear him, thank god.”

Biggs, who is also known for roles in Orange Is the New Black, Prozac Nation, and other films, explained that the situation became a parenting decision as much as a career-related one. He described it as a kind of “controlled introduction” to something he knew his children would eventually learn about anyway.

“It’s my version of a sex talk, right?” he said. “It’s like, how much do you want them to hear from friends and other people at school, and how much do you want to control the narrative, and it was literally happening with American Pie.”

Rather than avoiding detail, Biggs chose to be direct with his son. He said he asked him what he thought the scene involved before confirming the truth. “He guessed it, so in a way, I almost didn’t control the narrative,” Biggs explained. “But he wasn’t entirely sure. I said, ‘What do you think happens?’ and he actually guessed correctly. He was embarrassed to say it… and I was like, ‘Okay. Let me show you.’”

After watching the scene, Biggs said his son reacted with laughter rather than shock, although there was some initial discomfort. “He was a little uncomfortable for sure,” he said. “He did say I was a good actor.”

The moment, while awkward, seemed to bring a sense of relief for the actor, who has spent decades associated with the role that made him famous. Rather than letting speculation or outside jokes define the story for his children, Biggs chose to address it in a straightforward way, turning a long-standing pop culture moment into a family conversation.
