Jennifer Aniston Makes Rare Comment on Brad Pitt’s ‘Friends’ Cameo
Jennifer Aniston has shared rare comments about her ex-husband Brad Pitt while reflecting on one of his most memorable TV appearances on Friends. The conversation took place during Variety’s “Actors on Actors” series, released on June 3, where Aniston spoke with her former Friends co-star Lisa Kudrow.
The two actresses looked back at the many celebrity guest appearances that appeared on the hit NBC sitcom over the years. One of the most talked-about moments was Brad Pitt’s Thanksgiving episode, which aired in 2001.
During the interview, Kudrow brought up Pitt’s cameo, saying, “Those were great, the Thanksgiving episodes. When Brad was on, that was hilarious.”
Aniston responded warmly as she remembered the episode and the number of big-name stars who appeared on the show during its run. She said, “I know. How funny. The movie stars that came on Friends. Brad, Bruce Willis, Julia Roberts. Isabella Rossellini. We had so many — Sean Penn. They were always nervous. Remember? I always found it fascinating how nervous they were.”
Kudrow agreed that many of the guest stars felt uneasy stepping into the world of a sitcom, especially one as popular as Friends. She explained that actors from film often struggled with the tone of television comedy and were unsure how to adjust their performance.
She said, “Well, because what’s the tone? It’s not theater; it’s for TV. It’s not a movie. What the hell is this? And it’s a good question. And I remember someone asked one time. I didn’t know how to explain it, so I said, ‘Oh, just talk louder. Same intention, just —,’”
Aniston agreed with her co-star’s simple explanation, adding, “Just louder!”
Brad Pitt made his guest appearance on Friends in 2001 during the Thanksgiving episode. In the episode, he played Will Colbert, a former high school classmate of Ross Geller, played by David Schwimmer. The character was part of a storyline where Will had unresolved issues with Ross and Rachel, played by Aniston.

At the time the episode aired, Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston were married in real life. The couple got married in 2000 and later separated in 2005. Their relationship has remained one of the most talked-about Hollywood marriages, especially in connection with Pitt’s brief but memorable appearance on the show.
The Friends cameo is still remembered as one of the most famous guest appearances in the series’ history. The sitcom regularly featured high-profile stars throughout its run, including Bruce Willis, Julia Roberts, and Sean Penn, many of whom were close friends or colleagues of the main cast.
Aniston’s reflections were casual and nostalgic, focusing more on the experience of working on the show rather than her personal life. The discussion highlighted how Friends became a unique space where major film stars occasionally stepped into television comedy roles, often finding the experience more challenging than expected.
The episode remains a standout moment for fans of the series, both for its humor and for the real-life connection between Aniston and Pitt during that period.
