Jim Parsons Opens Up About Whether He Would Return for ‘The Big Bang Theory’ Reboot
Jim Parsons has given a clear answer about whether fans can expect him back in a The Big Bang Theory reboot or sequel.
The actor spoke about it during an April 17 appearance on The View, where he addressed questions about possibly stepping back into his famous role as Sheldon Cooper. Parsons played the character for 12 seasons from 2007 to 2019.
He said he does not see himself returning to the show. He explained that after so many years playing Sheldon, the experience feels complete for him.
Parsons said, “I don’t believe I would do a reboot. I can’t say I miss him, partly because—especially 12 years on a TV show where they’re writing for this specific actor—there’s a lot of me in that. Not the genius part, but there’s a lot of me in that.”
Even though he is not planning a comeback, Parsons said the character still feels close to him in some ways. He explained that fans still talk to him about Sheldon often, and that reaction still surprises him at times.
He added, “There’s a lot about his qualities and just who he was that I still carry with me. The longer it goes on, I’m more and more surprised when people approach me about it. Not because I’m stupid, but because I’m like, oh, it makes sense, but I’m just not thinking about it.”
Parsons also said the fan attention is always positive and kind, even years after the show ended.
While Parsons is not interested in a return, some of his former co-stars feel differently. Kaley Cuoco has said she would be open to reuniting with the cast, including Johnny Galecki, Simon Helberg, Kunal Nayyar, Mayim Bialik, and Melissa Rauch. She has spoken before about how important the show was to her career and how much she enjoyed working on it.
Even with that interest from some cast members, there is still no confirmed plan for a sequel or reboot of The Big Bang Theory. The franchise has continued in other ways through spin-off shows, but the original series has not been officially brought back.
What do you think about Jim Parsons saying no to a return as Sheldon? Should The Big Bang Theory stay finished, or should they try a reboot without him? Share your thoughts in the comments.
