Jujutsu Kaisen’s Geto Voice Actor Says New Movie Scene Was “Really Cruel” and More Emotional Than the Anime

The upcoming Jujutsu Kaisen: Hidden Inventory / Premature Death – The Movie is expected to be more emotional than ever. The film will be released in Japan on May 30, 2025, and will focus on the tragic past of two important characters: Suguru Geto and Satoru Gojo.

Japanese voice actor Takahiro Sakurai, who plays Geto, recently talked about the movie in an interview with Gamer. He said the story is even more heartbreaking than the anime version.

The movie shows Geto and Gojo during their high school days, back when they were still close friends. At first, Geto believed strongly in “protecting the weak and defeating the strong.” But after witnessing several tragic events, he lost faith in that idea and started walking a darker path.

Sakurai revealed that the movie includes a new “Juju Stroll” segment—usually a fun and silly part of the anime, but this time, it’s different. Instead of making fans laugh, it adds to the sadness of the story. “That [scene] was so unfair! It shared Gojo, Geto and [their other friend] Shoko watching a movie, and although it wasn’t shown in the film, it was like peeking into a moment of their youth, thinking, ‘There must have been a day when the three of them watched a movie together like this,’” Sakurai said. “I thought the production team was really cruel for creating such an emotional scene (laughs).”

Sakurai has voiced many famous anime characters, like those in Demon Slayer, Code Geass, and One-Punch Man. Still, he says Geto is one of the hardest roles he has ever played. “I knew he was a complicated character in many ways…I ended up seeing Geto as a character I wanted to portray and thought, ‘this is going to be a tough role,’” he said. “However, the first season and the movie version had some really thought-provoking direction…although we don’t have anything in common, I can sympathize with Geto the most out of all of the characters in the work.”

Jujutsu Kaisen: Hidden Inventory / Premature Death – The Movie will open in Japan on May 30. GKIDS will bring the film to North American theaters starting July 16.
