‘Jurassic World Rebirth’ Writer Explains the Movie’s Place in the Franchise’s Timeline

David Koepp, the writer of “Jurassic World Rebirth,” recently shared details about the upcoming film. He aims to bring back the horror and thought-provoking themes that made the “Jurassic” series special.

The franchise started with Michael Crichton’s 1990 novel and became known for its mix of suspense and smart ideas. But the “Jurassic World” trilogy shifted to big action scenes, earning money but also criticism.

Koepp, who wrote the first two “Jurassic Park” films, spoke on a Slash Film podcast. He said the new movie won’t change past events. Instead, it’s set five years after “Jurassic World Dominion” and shows how the world has evolved.

He explained, “We didn’t want to deny any events that occurred. [The new film is set] in that world. But how might that world have changed in the last five years, and whose story is this now?” This keeps the franchise’s history intact while starting fresh.

Steven Spielberg asked Koepp to write “Rebirth” after “Dominion,” which made over $1 billion but got mixed reviews. Koepp wants to shift the tone again, hinting at a different feel from the recent action-heavy films. The goal is to blend the old strengths with new ideas.

I think “Jurassic World Rebirth” could be a great move for the series. Going back to horror and deeper themes feels right after the action focus lost some fans. Koepp’s track record with the early films makes me hopeful for a strong story.

A fresh take set five years later sounds exciting, but it’ll need to avoid leaning too much on the past. What do you think about this direction? Are you excited for “Rebirth”? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
