‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Is Absolutely Demolishing the Box Office Overseas
Marvel movies have had a bumpy relationship with international box office in recent years, with China in particular becoming a market that Hollywood can no longer take for granted. That makes what’s happening with Tom Holland’s latest solo outing all the more notable.
‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day‘ opened across several Asian markets ahead of its North American release, giving industry watchers an early read on just how much appetite remains for Peter Parker’s story. The early numbers rolling in suggest that appetite is bigger than almost anyone expected.
In China, the film pulled in more than 35 million dollars on its opening day, marking the biggest single-day gross for a superhero movie in the country since ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’ back in 2019. Local trackers are now projecting a full theatrical run in China as high as 255 million to 265 million dollars, which would make it one of Hollywood’s strongest showings there in years.
That number carries extra weight given China never got to play ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ at all, after regulators reportedly objected to the film’s climactic use of the Statue of Liberty. Seven years of pent-up demand for Holland’s version of the character appears to be paying off in a single opening week, with presales alone reaching 18.6 million dollars ahead of Wednesday’s debut.
Indonesia is telling a similar story, with ‘Brand New Day’ pulling in nearly 600,000 admissions on its opening day, according to local tracking data. That figure marks the biggest single-day opening of any film released in Indonesia so far in 2026, edging out the previous benchmark set by ‘No Way Home,’ which had drawn around 570,000 admissions on its own opening day.
South Korea and other regional markets have also contributed strong early numbers, with South Korea alone reportedly bringing in close to five million dollars on opening day. Combined with strong showings in the UK, France, and Latin America, the film’s early worldwide total had already crossed the 100 million dollar mark before North America even opened.
Analysts are now projecting a global opening weekend somewhere between 465 million and 800 million dollars once domestic numbers are factored in, which would place ‘Brand New Day’ among the biggest launches in the character’s history and one of the strongest openings of the year across all of Hollywood. Sony reportedly expects the film to bring in an additional 270 million dollars internationally on top of a projected 195 million dollar domestic opening weekend.

For context, ‘No Way Home’ remains the high-water mark for the franchise, having opened to 600.5 million dollars globally in 2021 en route to a final worldwide total of 1.92 billion dollars. Whether ‘Brand New Day’ can chase those numbers over its full run remains to be seen, but its opening posture in Asia suggests Marvel may have found the rare franchise entry capable of shrugging off superhero fatigue entirely.
With reported production costs sitting around 225 million dollars, the film’s early Asian numbers alone are already putting it on a comfortable path toward profitability well before North American audiences have even had their say. If these early trends hold through the rest of its global rollout, ‘Brand New Day’ could end up being one of the defining box office stories of the year.
