Kaley Cuoco is opening up about a surprising change in her relationship with fiancé Tom Pelphrey that has actually improved their happiness. On the Armchair Expert podcast on February 9, Cuoco explained why the couple decided to stop sharing a bed. Between their young daughter, Matilda, and a house full of rescue dogs, the bedroom had become crowded, and sleep was difficult.

The pair also has very different sleep schedules, which made sharing a room even more challenging. Cuoco said she is an early riser, while Pelphrey stays up late to read and write. “He told me he couldn’t do this anymore,” she said, explaining that Pelphrey eventually moved into the guest suite.

At first, Cuoco worried about what others might think, but therapy helped her see it differently. Pelphrey pointed out that they weren’t even spending time together at night, so the shared bed was mostly for appearances.

Once Cuoco let go of the social pressure, she realized the decision was a positive one. “It’s honestly the best choice we’ve made,” she said, noting that both now sleep better and wake up happier.

The change has brought the couple closer in their waking hours. Without disturbances from each other or the dogs, Pelphrey sleeps soundly, and Cuoco can move around in the morning without waking him. The unconventional arrangement has worked so well that the couple feels it strengthened their bond instead of creating distance.

Cuoco and Pelphrey met in 2022, and they quickly became a family, welcoming their daughter shortly after. The pair recently celebrated Matilda’s upcoming third birthday with a quiet trip to the mountains.

While a wedding date hasn’t been set, the couple says they are happy with the balance of their modern household, enjoying family life and time together in a way that works for them.

Professionally, Cuoco has been busy with her MGM+ thriller Vanished, which premiered earlier this month. The series follows her character as she searches across Europe for a missing partner, and her performance has already sparked award buzz.

She continues to expand her lifestyle brand, Oh Norman!, which focuses on eco-friendly products for dogs, and recently hosted a charity gala in Los Angeles to benefit animal rescues.

Fans will also see Cuoco reprise her voice role as Harley Quinn in a new animated special, while she is set to star in the upcoming comedy Kansas City Star. Pelphrey is equally busy, with his series A Man in Full performing well on streaming platforms.

Despite their hectic schedules, the couple has maintained their private life and adapted their living arrangements to support both their careers and family life. Cuoco’s decision to sleep separately from Pelphrey challenges traditional ideas about couples and shows that what works for one relationship may not work for another. “It just made sense for us, and we’re happier for it,” she said.
