Kate Hudson, 46, Caught in Oscars Party Drama Moment Where a Famous Guest Cut in Line
Mindy Kaling recently talked about how she first connected with Kate Hudson in a very simple and relatable moment at an Oscars after-party. The story comes from comments shared by Kaling while speaking about their working relationship on the Netflix series Running Point.
Kaling explained that the two did not meet through work or a formal introduction. Instead, it happened while they were standing in a long line for portraits at an Oscars after-party. Things changed when a very famous person cut in front of them without saying anything.
That moment caught both Kaling and Hudson off guard. Kaling said they shared a quick, silent look, basically a “did that just happen” reaction. That small exchange ended up being the start of their friendship.
Kaling later said that this experience stayed with her and made her want to work with Hudson. Over time, that idea turned into reality when she created Running Point, which was designed as a project where they could collaborate.
Kaling also spoke about what she has learned from working closely with Hudson. She described Hudson as someone who brings humor in a very natural way and said it comes from her personality and attitude on set. “I always knew she was funny, but I learned her timing comes from a place of humility,” Kaling said.
She also added that Hudson is not just focused on comedy but brings a wider range of talent to her work, including singing and dramatic acting. Kaling said Hudson often makes bold choices look easy, even when they are not.
“She keeps making it look like a very good idea to trust your instincts and go where the fun is. And somehow, she makes it all look easy, which is the hardest thing in the world,” she added.
The two recently appeared together at the premiere of Running Point Season 2 in Los Angeles on April 15. The new season is set to release on Netflix on April 23 and continues the story of Isla Gordon, who is dealing with the pressures of managing a professional basketball team and her complicated personal life.
Kate Hudson is also experiencing a strong moment in her career. She was recently included in the TIME100 list of influential people, which reflects her growing presence in both film and television.
Her recent work includes the musical drama Song Sung Blue, where she played a singer in a Neil Diamond tribute band alongside Hugh Jackman. The performance has been part of a broader shift in her career toward more varied roles.
Mindy Kaling, meanwhile, is preparing for the release of her upcoming Hulu comedy Not Suitable for Work, set to premiere on June 2. The show follows a group of young professionals in Manhattan and continues her work as a writer and producer in television.
Together, Kaling and Hudson have built a creative partnership that started from a small, awkward moment and turned into an ongoing collaboration on screen.
