Kevin Feige Just Threw Cold Water on ‘X-Men’ Casting Rumors Days Before Comic-Con
Marvel fans have spent the past few weeks in an absolute frenzy over who might suit up for the studio’s long-awaited X-Men reboot. Between casting scoops, actor sightings and endless speculation threads, the rumor mill has rarely moved this fast heading into a single convention weekend.
That frenzy only intensified with San Diego Comic Con just days away, a venue Marvel has historically used to drop its biggest casting bombshells. With names like Adam Driver, Sabrina Carpenter, and Cooper Hoffman all circulating as potential mutants, fans fully expected Hall H to finally deliver some official answers.
Kevin Feige has now tempered those expectations directly, indicating that no actors have actually been formally signed on for the X-Men reboot at this point. That comment lands as a clear signal that whatever names have been swirling online remain speculative, at least as far as any binding commitments go.
The casting chatter has been building for weeks, with insiders narrowing down potential candidates for some of the franchise’s most iconic roles. Reports have named Bill Skarsgård as the current frontrunner to play Charles Xavier, with previous rumors linking Patrick Wilson to the role before Skarsgård reportedly emerged at the top of the studio’s wish list.
Alongside Xavier speculation, big names including Adam Driver, Sabrina Carpenter and Cooper Hoffman have all been floated for various roles within the team, with expectations building that Marvel would use its Hall H slot to confirm at least some of these picks.
Even amid all that speculation, industry reporting has been careful to note the gap between rumor and reality. According to Murphy’s Multiverse, nobody has officially signed a contract for the project yet, even as the studio’s casting list has reportedly been narrowed down to a smaller pool of finalists.
Feige’s caution around casting fits into a broader approach he has described for this project. During a roundtable attended by Collider, Feige explained that director Jake Schreier has a strong pulse on a younger demographic, noting that the X-Men, as depicted in the comics, will be a very youth-oriented, focused, and cast movie.
That direction represents a deliberate shift away from the star-driven formula that powered earlier MCU tentpoles. Schreier himself has echoed this approach, describing the upcoming film as a fresh start rather than a continuation of the tone established by the original Fox era X-Men movies.

With Marvel Studios returning to Hall H this Saturday for its first appearance at the convention since Robert Downey Jr’s surprise Doctor Doom reveal, anticipation for a major X-Men announcement remains sky high. Feige’s comments suggest that while casting conversations are clearly underway, fans hoping for a fully locked cast reveal at SDCC may need to wait a bit longer.
Given how much attention ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ is already commanding this month, any official update on X-Men casting would only add to what is shaping up to be an enormous few days for the franchise.
