Lana Condor Says She’s Personally Pitched Herself to Return as Jubilee in the MCU’s ‘X-Men’ Reboot

Marvel’s mutant universe is finally taking shape within the MCU, and with that shift comes a wave of speculation about which faces from the Fox era might make the jump alongside their characters. Few actors have been more vocal about wanting a second chance than the woman who first played one of the franchise’s most visually iconic young heroes.

Lana Condor made her feature film debut as Jubilation Lee, better known as Jubilee, in 2016’s ‘X-Men: Apocalypse,’ a role that introduced audiences to the character’s signature yellow jacket and firework-generating powers but gave her relatively little screen time to work with. Condor has spent the years since openly campaigning for another shot at the character, describing her attachment to the role as something she’s never quite let go of.

That campaign has now reportedly extended into actual conversations with the people shaping Marvel’s upcoming X-Men reboot. Condor has said she’s spoken directly with filmmakers involved in the project, making her case that she deserves another opportunity to bring Jubilee back to the screen now that she has more experience and perspective than she did as a teenager on her very first film set.

Marvel’s X-Men reboot is currently being developed with Jake Schreier, the director behind ‘Thunderbolts*,’ attached to helm the project, with Lee Sung Jin and Joanna Calo working on the screenplay. The film is expected to introduce a fresh live-action take on the mutant team into the MCU’s main continuity following the events of ‘Avengers: Secret Wars.’

Condor has consistently framed her interest in Jubilee as unfinished business rather than simple nostalgia. She’s previously described feeling like she barely scratched the surface of what the character could offer on screen, pointing to the character’s rich comic book history as evidence there’s still substantial material worth exploring if given the chance.

Beyond her single live-action appearance, Condor has kept a version of her connection to the role alive through voice work, though a different actress ultimately voiced Jubilee in Disney+’s animated series ‘X-Men ’97.’ That gap between her original film performance and any further on-screen appearances has only fueled her persistence in publicly advocating for a return.

Marvel’s broader X-Men plans remain shrouded in secrecy, with the studio yet to confirm any casting details for the reboot as of this writing. That uncertainty hasn’t stopped fans and former cast members alike from speculating about which Fox-era actors might carry their characters forward, especially as other franchise veterans like Hugh Jackman and Patrick Stewart have already reappeared in MCU projects tied to the mutant storyline.

Condor’s approach stands out for how directly she’s pursued the opportunity rather than simply expressing interest from a distance. Having reportedly put her case in front of the very people making decisions about the reboot, she now finds herself in a genuine waiting game to see whether her advocacy pays off.

For a character with as much unrealized potential as Jubilee, and an actress this determined to see the role through, fans may not have to wait too much longer to find out whether persistence translates into an actual return.
