Ali Larter says life has become much calmer since she and her family left Los Angeles and settled in Sun Valley, Idaho. Speaking with Fox News Digital during the Newport Beach TV Fest, the “Landman” actress shared that her family’s daily routine is much more relaxed than it was when they lived in California.

Larter said her summers now focus on spending time together instead of keeping up with the busy pace of Hollywood. While her children are no longer interested in hiking as much as they once were, the family still enjoys plenty of outdoor activities.

“Well, it’s totally different, so we can’t really get our kids to hike anymore. They don’t want to do that. But I can get them to take a bike ride and then do, like, a little cold plunge in the river,” Larter told Fox News Digital.

She said some of their favorite summer traditions are simple ones. The family enjoys barbecues at home, spending time with their dogs, watching their daughter play volleyball, and stopping at a local ice cream shop.

“We love to barbecue at our house. We love to play with our dogs. My daughter will probably play some volleyball. We’ll go to Leroy’s and get an ice cream cone. It’s just kind of simpler, and the days are really long. The sun’s out till like 10 at night now, so it’s been really beautiful to kind of have the kids out of school and enjoy the time with them,” she said.

Larter and her husband, actor Hayes MacArthur, are parents to two children, son Teddy, 15, and daughter Vivienne, 11. According to Fox News Digital, the family’s move to Idaho began during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. At first, they expected to stay only a short time before returning to California.

In an earlier interview with Fox News Digital, Larter explained that schools in California remained closed while schools in Idaho reopened. That allowed their young daughter to attend kindergarten in person instead of learning online.

“We went for two months thinking that the kids’ schools would be reopened in California, and they weren’t. And, so, they were doing online, and the schools there were open. And, so, we were able to put our 6-year-old daughter in kindergarten for the spring semester,” she recalled.

During that time, the family became close with other local families and enjoyed spending more time together outdoors. Larter said they made new friends through school, spent time skiing, and appreciated the slower pace of life.

After returning to Los Angeles for the summer, she and her husband realized how demanding life in Hollywood had become. Larter said actors are expected to attend auditions, parties, charity events, and many other industry gatherings.

Although she still has a deep connection to Los Angeles, she felt her family’s priorities had changed.

“We just didn’t want to do that. We wanna be with our children,” she said. “And, so, that’s when I think the biggest change was we came back after that summer, and we just made a go for it and said, ‘Let’s try this and see if it works.'”

Larter said she still loves Los Angeles and considers it an important part of her life, but Idaho has given her family the balance they were looking for.

The actress was attending the Newport Beach TV Fest to celebrate “Landman,” the hit drama in which she plays Angela Norris, the outspoken ex-wife of Billy Bob Thornton’s character. While speaking with Fox News Digital, Larter also described Angela as “a wildcat” and admitted she wishes she could bring a little of her character’s fearless attitude into her own everyday life.
