For quite a while now, fans have speculated that Hayden Christensen will return to his role as Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader in the ‘Ahsoka’ series on Disney+. Then, those speculations were somewhat confirmed when we saw – and heard – tidbits of Anakin in the show’s trailer. But now, it seems that we know exactly when we can expect to see Anakin’s return.

Before we continue, I’d like to point out that the rumors never came as an official statement from Disney or Lucasfilm, so take everything with a grain of salt. They did, however, come from trusted sources that have been right about many Star Wars-related rumors and leaks. With that being said, let’s dive in.

It has been hinted that Episode 4 will have a major impact on Ahsoka’s life. In fact, some fans have suggested that the show’s creator, Dave Filoni, has described Ahsoka’s journey as similar to Gandalf from ‘The Lord of the Rings’ – being powerful, but then going through a near-death experience, only to return much more powerful.

The assumption is that Ahsoka will die – or have a near-death experience – around the end of Episode 4, which is likely when we could first hear Anakin’s voice. And then, his full appearance will come in Episode 5, as many have already assumed before the new leaks.

What will happen in ‘Ahsoka’ Episode 5?

According to the said leaks, Episode 5 shall be directed by Dave Filoni – the creator himself – with about a 49-minute runtime. Ahsoka will find herself in The World Between Worlds – likely in moments of drowning or being near death in some other way. That’s when she’ll likely see alternate realities, or even the past, where her former master will speak directly to her.

It’s possible that Anakin will even appear to her as a Force Ghost to help her keep fighting and to help her survive her ordeal.

MakingStarWars also reported that the scenes where Ahsoka sees Anakin in The World Between Worlds will actually be her looking at an alternate reality, where her younger self fights Darth Vader/Anakin on Mustafar while the dead body of Obi-Wan Kenobi lies next to them.

Those reports were somewhat corroborated with other reports suggesting that the same team behind Darth Vader in ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ – namely, the actor Tom O’Connell, who was Darth Vader in the suit in that show – are returning for ‘Ahsoka,’ and that Tom is being fitted into another Darth Vader suit.

Now, if we see Hayden Christensen as Anakin and Darth Vader in his suit, too, perhaps we will see more than one scene in The World Between Worlds from more than one reality.

Who knows? Maybe we’ll even see a live-action reenactment of the famous ‘Star Wars: Rebels’ duel between young Ahsoka and her former master, where she slices his Vader helmet. Perhaps it’ll be a flashback or a moment when Tano accepts and embraces the past instead of trying to forget it.

There also seems to be a flashback to the Clone Wars era in the episode, which is when Ahsoka was Ani’s Padawan, and their relationship was at its peak. There are also rumors that the two will come directly into contact in The World Between Worlds – specifically, that Anakin will speak to Ahsoka and help her continue to fight.

What Can We Expect from the ‘Ahsoka’ Episode 3?

The purpose of this entire sequence will be for Ahsoka to accept the past, accept what happened to Anakin, and move on without trying to erase the past.

Finally, I also wanted to point out that an official clue from Disney+ points to Anakin’s appearance in Episode 5. Disney+ is releasing a special ‘Star Wars’ title on September 15, coinciding with ‘Ahsoka’ Episode 5.

The special is titled ‘Master & Apprentice: A Special Look at Ahsoka’ – and it’ll talk more about her and her relationship with Anakin Skywalker – basically filling in the gaps for those who haven’t seen ‘Clone Wars’ and ‘Rebels’ and are unaware that Anakin was Ahsoka’s Master.

Who will play the younger version of Ahsoka?

Again, take it with a grain of salt, but several sources expressed rumors about Savannah Steyn portraying the younger version of Ahsoka Tano in the flashbacks/The World Between Worlds scenes. ‘House of the Dragon’ fans might remember Steyn as Laena Velaryon, and I do believe she would be an amazing choice to portray young Ahsoka.

‘Ahsoka’ Episode 3 is arriving on August 29, 2023, whereas Episode 5 – the one where we expect Anakin Skywalker to appear – is dropping on September 12, exclusively on Disney+.
