One of the things that we know about Ahsoka Tano is that she used to be the Padawan learner of Anakin Skywalker, who went on to fall to the dark side and become Darth Vader. Of course, the story of Star Wars has always explored the theme of apprentices turning on their masters, and that was one of the things that happened in Ahsoka’s life when she had to fight Vader. So, when and where did Ahsoka fight Darth Vader?

Ahsoka Tano fought Darth Vader on Malachor V during the events of ‘Star Wars: Rebels’ season 2. They fought on 3 BBY when the crew of the Ghost went to Malachor because Yoda sent Ezra Bridger to Malachor. The Inquisitors followed them to that planet, and Vader eventually went there as well.

The fight between Ahsoka and Vader was one of the fated duels of the Star Wars storyline because it was bound to happen after Anakin fell to the dark side. In that regard, Ahsoka finally saw her former master’s fallen form more than 15 years since they last saw one another. So, with that said, let’s look at what happened in this fated duel between Ahsoka and Darth Vader.

Ahsoka and Darth Vader fought in ‘Star Wars: Rebels’

Even though her ultimate fate during the events of ‘Star Wars: Clone Wars’ was yet to be revealed, we know that Ahsoka Tano survived the Clone Wars because she appeared in season 2 of ‘Star Wars: Rebels,’ which was released before the final season of ‘Clone Wars.’

In ‘Rebels,’ the crew of the Ghost operated under the guidance of a secret operative codenamed “Fulcrum.” It turned out that Fulcrum was none other than Ahsoka Tano herself, who managed to survive Order 66 and worked secretly with Bail Organa.

In season 2, Ahsoka took on a more active role in helping the crew of the Ghost. Yoda told Ezra Bridger to travel to the ancient Sith planet of Malachor V, which was the site of a battle between the Jedi and the Sith thousands of years ago. A lot of things, such as the surprise appearance of Darth Maul, happened on Malachor V. But Ahsoka decided to go with them because she was so interested in knowing why Yoda would send Ezra and Kanan to an ancient Sith planet.

Ezra and Kanan thought they would find something to help them stop the Inquisitors and the Sith. It turned out that Maul was there to find a way to defeat the Sith, as he knew that there was an ancient Sith weapon he thought he could use against Vader and Palpatine. But the Inquisitors followed them to Malachor. Of course, Vader eventually arrived on the planet as well.

Ahsoka found Darth Vader in the temple on Malachor as he was about to kill Ezra. That was when Ahsoka confirmed her suspicions about Vader’s true identity as Anakin Skywalker. When Vader told Ahsoka that he “killed” Anakin for being too weak, the fated duel between the former master-and-apprentice duo happened.

This fight between Ahsoka and Vader took place in the season 2 finale of ‘Rebels,’ entitled ‘Twilight of the Apprentice.’ The battle took place on 3 BBY, meaning it happened three years before the events of ‘Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope.’ When Ahsoka knew that the temple was about to shut its doors in preparation for a massive energy surge, she allowed Ezra and Kanan to escape as she fought Vader alone.

The Rebels thought that Vader killed Ahsoka

After Ezra and Kanan escaped Malachor V and left Ahsoka to deal with Darth Vader, when the temple shut down, Ezra and Kanan believed Vader killed Ahsoka in their duel. That was why Ezra was overcome with guilt, as he understood that he could have done something to help Ahsoka but failed to do so.

During the final season of ‘Rebels,’ Ezra found out that Emperor Palpatine wanted something important in the Jedi Temple found on Lothal. Ezra tried to stop the emperor from discovering the secrets of the Lothal Jedi Temple, and that was when he found a key that led to an interdimensional plane of existence known as the World Between Worlds, which allowed people to travel through time and space.

While in the World Between Worlds, Ezra found a doorway that led to the battle between Ahsoka and Vader on Malachor V a few years ago. Overcome by his guilt of not being able to save Ahsoka back then, Ezra decided to enter that doorway.

The battle between Ahsoka and Vader continued. Knowing that she didn’t have the strength to defeat the powerful Sith Lord, Ahsoka plunged her lightsabers into the floor while the temple surged with energy. Her goal was to destroy the floor to make Vader fall.

When Vader was about to strike Ahsoka with his lightsaber, Ezra’s hand pulled Ahsoka into the portal that appeared behind her. As such, Ezra saved Ahsoka from certain death. And it was later revealed that Ezra didn’t change the past, as he was always meant to travel back to that point in time to save Ahsoka.

However, Palpatine used his powers to mess with Ezra and Ahsoka while inside the World Between Worlds. Ahsoka got separated from Ezra and found a doorway that led back to Malachor V during her original timeline. While on Malachor, she found another gate to the World Between Worlds.

As such, she decided to enter the door to go on a spiritual journey that lasted until the end of the Rebellion period. This explains why Ahsoka wasn’t around to help the Rebels fight the Empire during the events of the original trilogy, as she was on a spiritual journey in the World Between Worlds the entire time.
