‘Loki’ Season 2 Gets an Important Release Update

Share:

Loki TV series has been one of the most successful – and, in my humble opinion, the best – MCU shows on Disney+ so far. However, the release of Season 2 has been postponed numerous times for several reasons.

Most recently, allegations and assault charges against Jonathan Majors, who plays Kang the Conqueror, made the situation even harder for Disney and Marvel Studios to handle. Kang first appeared in Loki Season 1’s finale but was supposed to have a much bigger role in Season 2 – portraying multiple Kang variants, including Victor Timely.

We’ve seen Timely appear in the Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania post-credits scene, but seeing that Majors has already been laid off from several projects and that he parted ways with Entertainment 360 – his manager – fans wonder if that means he’d be laid off from the MCU as well. And, if so, does that mean Loki Season 2 is, once again, destined for postponement?

It appears that it won’t be the case.

When is Loki Season 2 coming out?

After being postponed, shifted, and rescheduled many times, it appears that Loki Season 2 finally has a set timeframe for its release.

According to a recent report from Variety, the new season of action is coming to Disney+ in mid-2023. Seeing that another MCU series, Secret Invasion, is coming to Disney+ on June 21 and will run until July 26, the most realistic timeframe for Loki Season 2’s release is late August or September 2023.

Here’s Who Could Replace Jonathan Majors as Kang

That actually coincides with Owen Wilson’s (Tom Hiddleston’s Loki co-star, portraying Mobius) statements in March, where he told Entertainment Tonight that he expects Loki Season 2 to be released in ‘late mid-2023 or September.’

He also stated that the show’s second season would be ‘wild’ and talked about Ke Huy Quan – this year’s Oscar winner for Best Supporting Actor – joining the series’ cast.

That all sounds lovely, but if Jonathan Majors was proven guilty after his court appearance in May, and Marvel Studios was forced to lay him off, would that postpone Loki Season 2 yet again, seeing that Majors plays a crucial role in the series?

Will Jonathan Majors’ situation affect Loki Season 2 release date?

As it now stands, Marvel Studios and Disney haven’t made any statements regarding the Jonathan Majors situation. They likely won’t comment on the matter until the actor is proven either guilty or innocent. That being said, should Majors be proven guilty and laid off from future MCU projects as Kang the Conqueror, it should not have anything to do with Loki Season 2.

The production of Loki Season 2 wrapped up in October 2022 – well before anything remotely scandalous happened with Majors. It is highly unlikely that Marvel will choose to reshoot all the Kang scenes for Loki with another actor – again, if Majors was proven guilty and laid off, and he’s currently neither.

So, whatever happens, and however the Majors situation unravels, he’ll almost certainly still be a part of Loki Season 2, and the show won’t be postponed any further due to that particular situation.

However, if he’s guilty, there’s no question that Marvel Studios will fire Majors and that Kang the Conqueror will be replaced in future projects, especially because, as rumors suggest, the alleged victim worked on Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania as well.
