‘The Marvels’ are set to hit cinemas on November 10, 2023, which is a few short weeks away, and slowly, the first realistic box office predictions are starting to come on. The first ‘Captain Marvel’ made a whopping $1.131 billion globally. However, considering recent MCU releases and their box office performance, it seems highly unlikely that ‘The Marvels’ will come anywhere near that figure. With a production budget of $274.8 million, it’s now the priciest movie in the Multiverse Saga. But will it truly manage to turn this budget into a profit?

According to Box-Office Pro, it won’t, not by a long shot anyway. The movie is expected to make 50M-$75M on its opening weekend and 121M-$189M across the entire run domestically.

It seems like more bad news for the overall MCU branding. Marvel Studios has faced challenges recently, with ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’s’ modest $118.4 million debut seen as underwhelming for an established sub-franchise. ‘Ant-Man & The Wasp: Quantumania’ also served to further lessen the interest that fans used to have, seeing it as one of the worst releases in recent history.

To make matters even further, due to ongoing strikes the marketing and attention that movie is getting are nearly non-existent, and fans weren’t especially glad that Captain Marvel will be sharing a stage with B-list characters in what was supposed to be her second solo movie in the franchise.

‘The Marvels’ Is Officially the Shortest MCU Movie Ever

Originally named ‘Captain Marvel 2,’ ‘The Marvels’ underwent a title change when it was revealed to be a crossover featuring ‘WandaVision’ star Teyonah Parris and ‘Ms. Marvel’ star Iman Vellani. The movie is also set after the events of ‘Secret Invasion,’ meaning that it relies heavily on viewers keeping up with Disney+ content. And this is where the problem starts. A broader audience might not be interested in the movie as much if it’s not going to understand the events that set it up.

The fact that ‘Secret Invasion’ was one of the worst MCU releases in recent times only works negatively for the movie overall. While ‘Doctor Strange 2’ successfully followed up on ‘WandaVision,’ it remains uncertain if ‘The Marvels’ can achieve the same.

Despite the success of ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3,’ the MCU is still working to establish the central storyline of the Multiverse Saga, and ‘The Marvels’ seems like a good opportunity to get on the right track. We’re certainly hoping that the movie will be more successful than predicted.
