The film also introduces major DC characters like Brainiac, played by Lars Eidinger, who serves as the main villain. Aaron Pierre joins as John Stewart, another Green Lantern. According to DC Studios, the story focuses on Superman and Lex Luthor being pushed into an uneasy partnership to face a threat that neither of them can handle alone.

The project is part of James Gunn’s larger DC Universe plan under Chapter One: Gods and Monsters. Gunn first confirmed he was working on the film in 2025, shortly before the release of Superman. More casting updates followed later that year, with production officially beginning in April at Trilith Studios in Atlanta, as well as filming in the UK and Cincinnati.

In the film, Gathegi’s character Mister Terrific is described as a highly intelligent inventor who uses advanced technology to fight crime. Hoover’s Cat Grant, meanwhile, is expected to bring her strong media personality from the Daily Planet into the story, continuing her role as one of Metropolis’s key journalists.

The new behind-the-scenes glimpse has only increased anticipation for the film, which is scheduled to hit theaters on July 9, 2027. According to DC Studios, filming will continue through mid-2026 as the cast works through a large-scale production that brings together multiple heroes and villains from across the DC Universe.
