Matthew Lillard is adding another major project to his already packed schedule. He has officially joined Man of Tomorrow, the upcoming Superman sequel from DC Studios.

The film is being led by James Gunn, who is writing, directing, and producing the project. David Corenswet will return as Superman, continuing his role from the previous film in the new DC Universe.

Lillard’s exact role has not been revealed yet. Studio representatives have also not shared any details about the character he will play.

The cast is already filled with several major names. Nicholas Hoult is set to return as Lex Luthor, while Rachel Brosnahan plays Lois Lane. Other confirmed roles include Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, and Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher. Lars Eidinger is also involved as Brainiac, a major villain in the story. Additional actors such as Adria Arjona and Aaron Pierre are also part of the project in undisclosed or supporting roles.

The film is already in production, with filming taking place across multiple locations including the United States and the United Kingdom. It is currently scheduled for release on July 9, 2027, and will be part of the DC Universe’s “Gods and Monsters” storyline.

The story of Man of Tomorrow reportedly centers on Superman and Lex Luthor being forced to work together against a larger threat, Brainiac. The film continues the new direction for DC Studios under James Gunn and Peter Safran.

Outside of this project, Lillard has had a busy year. He recently returned to the Scream franchise in its seventh film, reprising his role as Stu Macher. He also appeared in television projects including Cross and Daredevil: Born Again. Next, he is set to appear in an upcoming A24 series adaptation of Carrie.

With this latest casting, Lillard continues to expand his presence across both film and television, moving between major horror franchises and big-budget superhero films.

This is an interesting addition to an already stacked cast. James Gunn seems to be building a very large and connected universe, and Lillard’s involvement adds another familiar face to it. It will be interesting to see what role he plays since it has not been revealed yet. What do you think about Matthew Lillard joining Man of Tomorrow? Share your thoughts in the comments.
