Wonder Woman is not just DC’s most important heroine, she is also one of the biggest and most important female comic book characters of all time. Despite many changes to her character, she is now a major inspiration to girls and a character that embodies female empowerment in a brilliant way.

And while Diana Prince, or Princess Diana of Themyscira, is the most famous iteration of Wonder Woman, the superhero name is just a name and other characters have also had that superhero name, which is important for this report.

Namely, in a recent interview, legendary comic book author Mark Waid confirmed that a major Wonder Woman-related retcon is on its way, a retcon that will give Diana’s mother, Hippolyta, a bigger role in the mainstream DC continuity.

So, the exciting new revelation happened during a recent interview with Mark Waid, which you can check out here:

Namely, Waid is the author of the new History of DC, which explains many crucial moments and defines the new DC Comics canon as of the time of writing. Of course, there are some new revelations, but it seems that we also have a major retcon.

Namely, as one fan asked, Waid has revealed the identity of the Golden Age Wonder Woman. For a while, it has been thought that it was Diana, considering her heritage and the fact that she is basically immortal and does not age like normal humans, but it seems that it is not the case. At least not anymore.

Waid officially revealed that Diana’s mother, Hippolyta, was the Golden Age Wonder Woman during WWII, not Diana. This actually makes sense from a modern standpoint, but we are going to see the implications of this fact for the future of DC.
