Mark Waid Says Time Is Broken in the DC Universe and Teases Major Upcoming Event

Mark Waid says time is falling apart in the DC Universe, and things are only going to get more chaotic. In a recent interview, the legendary comic writer opened up about his big new crossover event called We Are Yesterday, which will connect stories from Justice League Unlimited, Batman/Superman: World’s Finest, and his upcoming New History of the DC Universe.

This time-travel story isn’t just a small adventure. It’s a big deal for the whole DC Universe. Waid said the goal is to eventually fix the timeline, but before they can do that, they have to break it first. And according to him, that’s already happening.

Waid explained that some serious damage to time has already been caused by characters like Darkseid and Gorilla Grodd. These events started back in Absolute Power and then continued through All In Special #1, where Darkseid was taken out and the so-called “Absolute Universe” was formed.

“And time is Broken too. This is what’s going on in both those books and it’s gonna spill out across the DC line. “

One of the biggest problems comes from Grodd bringing the Legion of Doom out of the past and into the present. That alone has made the timeline even messier. And just because they came from the past doesn’t mean they’ll go back the same way. Waid hinted that this could change a lot of things.

He said, “Time for the moment is broken which will lead into a bigger event that I can’t talk about yet. But as a consequence, just because we bring the Legion of Doom from the past doesn’t necessarily mean that they have to go back into the box exactly as we found them. There’s shenanigans too, there’s lasting consequences and in other words, they are all not safe.”

He added, “There will be some interesting things happening to the Legion of Doom that, if it were straight up continuity, you would be saying, well that doesn’t make any sense. But with time broken, all the rules are gone.”

So what does that mean for heroes like Batman and Superman? Waid says they’ll feel the effects right away, but the long-term impact will be even bigger. And this is just the start. He made it clear that everything happening in We Are Yesterday is leading to something much larger, something he isn’t allowed to reveal just yet.

But one thing is certain. In this version of the DC Universe, time isn’t stable. Anything can happen. And that means nothing, and no one, is safe.
