DC Comics Adds New Story to DC Pride 2025 and Shares Powerful Reflections

DC Comics has announced a new story for its upcoming DC Pride 2025 special, set to be released on June 4. The new story is written by Jenny Blake, with art by Sara Soler and lettering by Jodie Troutman.

This personal and touching story is inspired by Blake’s own life and joins other heartfelt works like Kevin Conroy’s “Finding Batman” and Phil Jimenez’s “Spaces” from past DC Pride editions.

Jenny Blake is a legendary name in comics, with over 50 years of experience. She helped create Black Lightning, a popular DC superhero. In February 2025, she began using the name Jenny Blake in both her personal and professional life. Now, she’s using her voice and experience to tell a powerful story in DC Pride 2025.

Blake said: “When I came out as transgender, the comics community was overwhelmingly loving and supportive. Being asked to contribute to this anthology was unexpected and so affirming. I’ve done a lot of cool things in my 50-plus years in comics, but this story is one of the things I’m most proud of. I see myself in this story, and I hope readers see something of themselves in it. I had a wonderful time writing my story, and I hope the readers enjoy it as much as I did.

The artwork by Sara Soler brings the story to life with emotion and depth. Her style matches Blake’s storytelling beautifully, making the story feel both personal and universal. Readers will connect with themes of change, strength, and finding where you belong.

The entire DC Pride 2025 collection is focused on community and representation. Comic writer Jude Ellison S. Doyle shared why superhero stories are a great fit for this message: “Superhero comics are a really perfect medium for telling a story about community. These characters inherently live in community, in-universe and out, and are kept alive by the community of fans and readers that sustains their existence. So getting to sit with a bunch of queer comics creators and build a story about queer superheroes together felt really healing and right.

Another contributor, Maya Houston, talked about how important it is to see yourself in the heroes you love: “Growing up, I was a huge DC Comics fan. Once I realized my own queerness and found a community within that identity, it became even more exciting to see the heroes I grew up loving resemble the lives of my loved ones and myself. It showed that we didn’t need a cape to feel triumphant. DC Pride is so important because it serves as a celebration of LGBTQ+ experiences.

DC Comics will also feature a variant cover by artist Sozomaika, along with the main cover, giving fans even more to enjoy with this meaningful release.

DC Pride 2025 continues to be a celebration of identity, community, and storytelling—giving LGBTQ+ creators and fans a space to shine and feel seen.
