Marvel Fans Roast ‘The Punisher: One Last Kill’ Over Bad Visual Effects and Audio Problems
Marvel fans are heavily criticizing a scene from “The Punisher: One Last Kill” after a short clip from the Disney+ special went viral online. Many viewers are calling out the visual effects and sound mixing, with some comparing one moment in the action sequence to graphics from older PlayStation games.
The special stars Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle, also known as the Punisher. Bernthal also helped co-write the project, which was designed to bring the violent antihero back into the spotlight before his expected return in future Marvel stories.
Most reactions to the special have been positive, especially from fans who wanted a darker and more grounded Marvel project. But social media quickly became focused on one rooftop sequence that many viewers believe looks unfinished.
The scene happens during a brutal fight in Frank Castle’s apartment building after criminals target him with a bounty on his head. The action eventually moves to the roof, where Frank jumps off the side of the building while trying to escape attackers. That brief falling shot is now being mocked online because many fans think the CGI version of Castle looks fake and unnatural.
Some viewers joked that the character suddenly looked like a PlayStation 3 video game model instead of a real person. Others compared the moment to characters from video games like “The Last of Us” and “Grand Theft Auto.” Several social media users shared memes and clips to make fun of the sequence, turning the four-second moment into one of the biggest talking points surrounding the special.
According to reports, fans were also unhappy with parts of the audio mixing in the special, saying certain scenes sounded uneven or poorly balanced. While many viewers still enjoyed the action and violent tone of the project, the technical complaints have continued to spread online.
A report from The Hollywood Reporter later pushed back against claims that the rooftop scene was completely made with unfinished CGI. According to an unnamed source close to the production, the stunt was mostly filmed for real. The report claims Bernthal performed the beginning of the fall himself before a stunt performer completed the larger drop.
The source told The Hollywood Reporter that visual effects were mainly used for face replacement work.

“Bernthal performed the beginning of the fall, and his stuntman took over for the impact shot,” the source said. “There is some VFX, however, which might explain some of the wonkiness — the stuntman’s face was swapped for Bernthal’s.”
Even with that explanation, many fans online still believe the scene looks unfinished. Some viewers are now wondering if Marvel and Disney+ could quietly update the shot later, something streaming platforms have done before when mistakes or controversial scenes gained attention online.
Despite the backlash, the special has still succeeded in getting people talking about Frank Castle again. The project was meant to reintroduce casual audiences to the Punisher and remind viewers of his tragic backstory before his next rumored appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
For now, though, the conversation around “The Punisher: One Last Kill” is less about its story and more about one awkward-looking action shot that the internet refuses to forget.
