Marvel Is Already Planning ‘Spider-Man 5’ According to Latest Rumors

Tom Holland has had an extraordinary run as the MCU’s Peter Parker. What began as a supporting appearance in ‘Captain America: Civil War’ grew into one of the most beloved and commercially dominant character arcs in superhero cinema. With ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ swinging into theaters on July 31, the fourth solo chapter of his tenure is nearly here, and yet the conversation in fan circles has already moved further ahead than the film itself.

The reason is a steady drip of intel from trusted Marvel insider Alex Perez of The Cosmic Circus, who has spent the past several months fielding questions from fans about the future of the franchise. What has emerged from those sessions paints an increasingly clear picture of how Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures are thinking about Holland’s long-term future in the role, and what comes next if ‘Brand New Day’ delivers as expected.

According to Perez, a fifth Spider-Man film with Tom Holland is reportedly in the works, with the current plan treating ‘Brand New Day’ as the launch of a new second trilogy. The report has understandably sent fans into a frenzy, arriving just over a month before the film itself opens.

Alex Perez: It’s on the backburner. Marvel’s movie focus right now is on Black Panther 3, Shang-Chi 2, Spider-Man 5, the X-Men, Thunderbolts* sequel, Blade, Midnight Sons, and the next Avengers title.

The framing around the report is as significant as the news itself. When asked directly how long Holland might continue in the role, previously Perez told The Cosmic Circus community, “I might see this as his last trilogy, to be honest.” That phrasing is carefully chosen. It suggests Holland is not wrapping up with ‘Brand New Day,’ but rather beginning the final chapter of his Spider-Man era, a second three-film arc that would give the character a proper conclusion.

Producer Amy Pascal confirmed as far back as November 2021 that ‘Brand New Day’ was planned to be the first film in a new Spider-Man trilogy. That plan appears to still be intact, and with the film’s pre-sales reportedly among the best in years, there is no shortage of commercial motivation to keep the momentum going.

If the second trilogy happens, Perez has offered some early detail on the villains likely to shape it. Wilson Fisk, Venom, Tombstone, Hammerhead, and Prowler are among the names Perez has heard connected to the upcoming run of films. It is a lineup that signals a deliberate tonal direction, one built around street-level crime and New York City power structures rather than multiverse spectacle.

Kingpin is a particularly interesting inclusion given his established MCU presence in ‘Daredevil: Born Again,’ where the character already references awareness of Spider-Man. Venom, meanwhile, has a built-in MCU hook. A piece of the Venom symbiote was left behind in the MCU after the post-credits sequence of ‘No Way Home,’ and Michael Mando, who returns as Mac Gargan in ‘Brand New Day,’ has teased that his character could one day bond with the alien organism.

Peter Parker’s New Apartment in ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Has Fans Asking One Very Expensive Question

Holland has been notably thoughtful in recent interviews about how he sees his future in the role. Speaking to Deadline, he said, “If I could do what Downey did for me, I would be so content swinging off into the sunset,” drawing a direct parallel to Robert Downey Jr.’s ability to inspire the next generation of MCU heroes before passing the torch. The implication is that Holland envisions a similar arc for Peter Parker, one that culminates in a meaningful handoff rather than an abrupt ending.

Holland has also described ‘Brand New Day’ as the most creatively fulfilling filming experience he has ever had, specifically praising director Destin Daniel Cretton for making it, in his own words, the best version of any Spider-Man movie. That level of enthusiasm from the lead actor bodes well for the reception of the film and the appetite for more to follow.

For now, the focus is on ‘Brand New Day’ and what it establishes for Holland’s version of the character going forward. The film follows Peter four years after the events of ‘No Way Home,’ with the world having completely forgotten he exists, and explores what happens when a young man buries his entire identity inside a costume. That premise alone offers rich material for a second and third film to explore as Peter is forced, eventually, to reckon with what he has given up.

Whether ‘Spider-Man 5’ emerges as a formal announcement in the months ahead will likely depend on how audiences respond to ‘Brand New Day’ this summer. But based on what Marvel insiders are reportedly hearing inside the studio, the answer is already looking more like a when than an if.
