Marvel Reportedly Wants to Expand the Thunderbolts With These New Members

‘Thunderbolts*‘ introduced audiences to a team of morally gray former villains turned reluctant heroes, and the movie’s success opened the door for Marvel Studios to keep expanding that ensemble in unexpected directions. With the team now folded into the larger Multiverse Saga, speculation has continued building around who might join Valentina Allegra de Fontaine’s roster of misfits next.

That speculation traces back months, with industry insider Alex Perez of The Cosmic Circus previously floating ideas about where the Thunderbolts could head after ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ and ‘Secret Wars.’ Perez has repeatedly described Valentina as someone who loves collecting super-powered people and mercenaries, only to pit them against each other for her own ends, a dynamic that leaves plenty of room for fresh additions to the team.

Now, in his latest August Q&A, Perez has offered new specifics on who Marvel might be considering. According to Perez, ideas that have circulated internally include repurposing Taskmaster’s technology to create a new version of the character, along with bringing Abomination and Melissa Gold into the fold, while also floating Bullseye as a potential addition to the roster.

Perez was careful to frame all of this as early-stage brainstorming rather than confirmed plans, noting that a lot of what he’s describing amounts to ideas being thrown around rather than anything locked in. Still, the specificity of the names involved offers a clearer picture of where Marvel’s internal conversations about the team’s future may currently be headed.

Each of the characters mentioned carries meaningful ties to the Thunderbolts in Marvel Comics. Abomination, played by Tim Roth, has already appeared in the MCU across multiple projects, including a redemption-focused arc in ‘She-Hulk: Attorney at Law’ after his initial rampage in ‘The Incredible Hulk,’ making him a natural fit for a team built around morally complicated former villains seeking a second chance.

Melissa Gold, meanwhile, is better known in the comics as Songbird, a founding member of Baron Zemo’s original Thunderbolts lineup who eventually chose heroism over villainy alongside several of her teammates. Fans have speculated that Geraldine Viswanathan’s character Mel, Valentina’s assistant introduced in ‘Thunderbolts*,’ could eventually be revealed as Melissa Gold herself, which would make her transition onto the actual team a relatively seamless one.

Bullseye, meanwhile, already exists within the MCU through Wilson Bethel’s live-action portrayal in ‘Daredevil: Born Again,’ where Perez has previously indicated the character will continue playing a role into the show’s second season. Perez has floated the idea of Bullseye eventually clashing with Bucky Barnes within the Thunderbolts dynamic, suggesting Marvel may see crossover potential between the character’s Daredevil storyline and the broader Thunderbolts roster.

None of these potential additions have been officially confirmed by Marvel Studios, and Perez’s comments remain speculative reporting rather than locked casting or story details. Still, given how much Valentina’s character has been built around assembling exactly this kind of unpredictable, morally ambiguous lineup, the idea of folding in Abomination, a reworked Songbird, and Bullseye tracks with the tone the franchise has established for the team so far.

For fans who’ve enjoyed watching Marvel lean into messier, more antiheroic team dynamics through the Thunderbolts, these potential additions suggest the studio isn’t done expanding that corner of the MCU anytime soon.
