Marvel Television Is Reportedly Hitting Pause, and ‘Zodiac’ Is Waiting on the Other Side

It has been a bumpy five years for Marvel on the small screen. The Nov. 10 finale of ‘VisionQuest’ is set to close out a five-year television experiment that began with ‘WandaVision’ in 2021, and the ride has included a few lessons the studio is still absorbing.

The recent run has been rocky. ‘Wonder Man’ was canceled after one season despite an earlier renewal for Season 2. Then came word that ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ Season 3 will be the final chapter for the series, with the last season arriving on Disney+ sometime in 2027.

Now a fresh report suggests the quiet is about to get a lot longer. According to ComicBook.com, citing TheWrap, Marvel Television’s live-action projects will go on hiatus after ‘VisionQuest’ and ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ Season 3, with no new shows until after ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’. Following those two series, Marvel’s live-action television offerings will go on hiatus until after the release of ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’.

The show tasked with ending that drought is ‘Zodiac.’ Per the report, it will launch Marvel TV’s next era and act as a “jumping-on point” for new fans. It is also said to be made with a more modest budget, with room for known characters and actors to appear in supporting roles. There is reportedly hope that it will continue past Season 1.

For a project with so much riding on it, very little is actually known. Marvel Television chief Brad Winderbaum introduced ‘Zodiac’ at New York Comic Con on Oct. 8, but offered few details about the storyline. The live-action spy thriller is set to debut on Disney+ in 2028.

The title does offer a few hints for comic readers. In the comics, Zodiac is a criminal cartel inspired by astrological signs, with ties to SHIELD and Hydra. Winderbaum suggested the show’s logo contains clues for fans familiar with Marvel Comics, so expect plenty of freeze-framing once the teasers start to arrive.

Production details are slowly coming into focus. Filming is scheduled to begin in London in spring 2027, and Winderbaum said casting would begin within a couple of weeks of the announcement. Deadline has reported that Israeli writing partners Amit Cohen and Ron Leshem are on board to develop the series.

The pause also fits a broader recalibration. One source told TheWrap that Marvel Television always has between 3 and 5 live-action shows in development at a given time. That suggests the hiatus is less a retreat than a reset, with projects continuing behind the scenes while nothing new reaches screens.

The numbers help explain the caution. ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ was popular with fans and critics but never became a major ratings hit for Marvel Television, and Marvel parted ways with showrunner Dario Scardapane after Season 3 wrapped filming. A smaller-budget series built for newcomers looks like a deliberate answer to the lesson of a sprawling, continuity-heavy slate.

The tradeoff is time. If the reports hold, fans who loved the Disney+ era will go a long stretch without a new live-action Marvel series, and ‘Zodiac’ won’t arrive until 2028. Whether a spy thriller with a modest budget and cameo-sized appearances from familiar faces can win back casual viewers remains to be seen.

For now, the plan looks clear, even if many details are still unconfirmed. Marvel is closing out the current chapter with ‘VisionQuest’ and ‘Daredevil: Born Again,’ waiting for ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ to land, and betting that ‘Zodiac’ can be the doorway that brings viewers back.
