‘Marvel’s Spider-Man’ Star Opens Up About Peter Parker’s Face Change

This will be a pretty interesting Fall for Marvel fans. The Marvel Cinematic Universe will spawn one new movie, ‘The Marvels’, and the second season of the ‘Loki’ Disney+ series. But apart from that, Spider-Man fans are looking forward to ‘Marvel’s Spider-Man 2,’ the highly anticipated video game developed by Insomniac Games that serves as the sequel to 2018’s original ‘Marvel’s Spider-Man’ and its spin-off ‘Spider-Man: Miles Morales,’ which was released in 2020.

The original ‘Marvel’s Spider-Man’ game is the most successful first-party game ever released on PS4, with over 20 million copies sold. Two years later, when ‘Spider-Man: Miles Morales’ was released as a launching title for PS5, the original game also received a remastered version for PS5, in which Peter Parker’s face was changed. The thing is that John Bubniak provided motion capture for the original release of the first game, and Ben Jordan replaced him in the remastered version and the spin-off. Yuri Lowenthal voiced both versions, but many fans didn’t like that face change.

Yuri Lowenthal talks about Peter Parker’s face change in ‘Marvel’s Spider-Man’

Ben Jordan returned for the Peter Parker motion capture in the upcoming ‘Marvel’s Spider-Man 2,’ while Yuri Lowenthal reprises his voice role. Although it’s been three years since that face change, some fans still aren’t okay with it, with many claiming that the change was done on purpose to make the game’s Peter Parker look more like Tom Holland’s Peter Parker from the MCU.

Lowenthal was recently asked what he thinks about fans who still resent that face change. Here’s what the voice actor had to say.

“The performance was the same for me. I got over it as soon as they said, ‘Hey, we wanna make this change so that the facial animation is better.’ I said, ‘I’m all in!’ I don’t care if he looks like a goblin. If my performance is better, then I’m in. I’m kind of tired of talking about it, to be honest, because I think everything that needs to be said has been said. Some people will take longer to get over it.

Some people will never get over it. The one positive thing I take away from this experience is that people connect emotionally so hard and so deeply in the first game that they’re mad when they feel that person changes. I can only be so mad about that because it worked, not the change thing, but you connected with the character, which is great. Now, get over it!”
