Marvel’s X-Men Reboot Just Found Its Angel in ‘Gen V’ Star Asa Germann

Marvel Studios has spent months carefully assembling the cast for its long-awaited X-Men revival, revealing pieces of the roster gradually throughout the summer as testing and negotiations played out behind the scenes. With most of the team already locked into place, fans have been eagerly watching for word on which mutants might still be waiting in the wings.

That wait just got shorter for one particular hero. According to an exclusive report from The Hollywood Reporter, ‘Gen V’ and ‘Scream 7’ actor Asa Germann is in final talks to join the X-Men reboot as Warren Worthington III, better known to comic fans as Angel.

The casting comes with a notable twist, since Germann wasn’t originally being considered for this specific role at all. He had actually tested for Cyclops earlier in the process, a part that ultimately went to Kit Connor, but Marvel was reportedly impressed enough with his audition to offer him the winged hero instead.

Angel joins a roster that’s been steadily taking shape since Marvel began revealing casting throughout the summer. The confirmed lineup already includes Sadie Sink as Jean Grey, Kit Connor as Cyclops, Christopher Abbott as Professor X, Samara Weaving as Emma Frost, Inde Navarrette as Rogue, and Maya Boyd as Storm, with Adam Driver rounding out the cast as the film’s primary antagonist, Mister Sinister.

Created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, Warren Worthington III first appeared all the way back in the original ‘X-Men’ No. 1 in 1963, making him one of the character’s earliest founding members. His defining trait has always been the feathered wings sprouting from his back, granting him the power of flight, though his comic book history includes a darker chapter where the villain Apocalypse mutilated him and replaced his wings with metallic, projectile-firing versions.

This won’t be the character’s first trip to the big screen, either. Angel previously appeared in live-action twice before, with Ben Foster playing the role in 2006’s ‘X-Men: The Last Stand’ and Ben Hardy taking over the part a decade later in 2016’s ‘X-Men: Apocalypse.’ Germann’s casting would mark the character’s third live-action portrayal and his first appearance within the Marvel Cinematic Universe proper.

For Germann, the role adds another superhero credit to a résumé that’s already building serious momentum. He’s best known for playing Sam Riordan in Prime Video’s ‘Gen V,’ the college-set spinoff of ‘The Boys’ following a group of young superpowered students, and he recently appeared as Lucas Bowden in ‘Scream 7.’

Marvel declined to comment on the casting when reached by The Hollywood Reporter, keeping official confirmation on hold even as the report indicates talks are in their final stages. That pattern of silence has become fairly standard for the studio throughout this casting process, with most roles only becoming officially confirmed once contracts are fully finalized.

Behind the camera, Jake Schreier, who previously directed ‘Thunderbolts*,’ is helming the project, which currently holds a May 5, 2028 theatrical release date. With that timeline still nearly two years out, Marvel has plenty of runway left to continue filling out the remaining roster before cameras officially start rolling.

Given how much attention the studio’s X-Men casting has generated all summer, Germann’s addition is likely to reignite fan debate over who else might still be waiting for an official announcement. For now, though, Angel’s inclusion gives the growing ensemble one more founding member straight from the original 1963 comic lineup.
