The throwback pictures have started trending again as Mendes enters a new phase in her career, now focused on big-budget films and global press tours. Fans have been resharing the images across social media, connecting them to how much her public profile has changed in the years since the trip.

At the time of the Miami vacation in 2023, Mendes was still widely known for her role in Riverdale and was building her career outside of television. Now, just a few years later, she is stepping into a major blockbuster role in Masters of the Universe.

The film, officially titled Masters of the Universe (internationally released as He-Man and the Masters of the Universe), is a fantasy action movie directed by Travis Knight. It is based on the classic Mattel franchise and serves as the second live-action adaptation after the 1987 film. Nicholas Galitzine stars as Prince Adam / He-Man, with Mendes playing a key role alongside an ensemble cast that includes Jared Leto, Alison Brie, James Purefoy, Kristen Wiig, Morena Baccarin, and Idris Elba.

The story follows Prince Adam as he returns to the planet Eternia after being separated from it for 15 years. He discovers that his home has been taken over by the powerful villain Skeletor. To save Eternia and reclaim his legacy, he joins forces with allies like Teela, played by Mendes, and Man-At-Arms, and eventually accepts his destiny as He-Man.

The production of the film went through a long development process. After several attempts to reboot the franchise over the years, the project changed studios and creative teams multiple times. In 2009, Sony Pictures first began development on a new version. Later, the rights moved to Netflix in 2022 before eventually being acquired by Amazon MGM Studios in 2024, where the current version of the film was finalized under director Travis Knight. Filming took place in London from January to June 2025.

The movie premiered at the TCL Chinese Theatre on May 18, and is scheduled for theatrical release in the United States on June 5. Early reactions from critics have been mixed to positive, with attention now shifting toward its box office performance and global rollout.

As Mendes continues promoting the film, the resurfaced Miami vacation photos have become part of the online conversation around her career evolution, from television star to leading figure in a major fantasy franchise.
