AMC’s Immortal Universe has spent the past few years quietly building out a shared world of vampires and witches, using crossover appearances and shared mythology to keep fans invested across multiple shows at once. That strategy paid off again this weekend, when the network used one of its biggest current hits to tease what comes next for a fan favorite series that has been on hiatus. The timing felt anything but random.

Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches‘ first premiered back in January 2023, following neurosurgeon Rowan Fielding as she uncovers her connection to a powerful line of witches while contending with a dangerous entity tied to her family for generations. The show returned for a second season in January 2025 and was officially renewed for a third chapter that April, though fans have been waiting months for any real update on where the story goes next. That wait finally ended over the weekend.

AMC debuted the first teaser for ‘Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches’ season three during the penultimate episode of ‘The Vampire Lestat,’ confirming the series will return in 2027 on AMC and AMC Plus. The brief clip centers on Alexandra Daddario’s Rowan Fielding as she approaches a patient on a gurney, her eyes turning dark before she begins to levitate off the ground, hinting that her powers are reaching a far more dangerous level heading into the new season.

According to the official synopsis, season three relocates much of the story to Salem, Massachusetts, where the show will dive deeper into the mythology of witchcraft, introduce new spellbound families, and weave in some of the historical events tied to the town’s infamous witch trials. That shift in setting marks a significant departure from the New Orleans backdrop that defined the first two seasons, suggesting the show is ready to widen its scope considerably.

Daddario returns alongside Harry Hamlin as Cortland Mayfair, Tongayi Chirisa as Ciprien Grieve, and Alyssa Jirrels as Moira Mayfair, with Michiel Huisman also back as Michael, whose romance with Rowan is expected to face new complications this season. The new season is bringing in a notable wave of fresh faces as well, including Betsy Brandt as Katherine, James Frain as Solomon, Eliza Scanlen as Jessica, and Omar Maskati as Leo.

Showrunner Thomas Schnauz, who joins the series for its third season, expressed enthusiasm about teaming up with AMC and executive producer Mark Johnson again, noting that the work he has done alongside fellow showrunner Esta Spalding on the new season has been genuinely exciting, in a statement provided to Vital Thrills. Spalding echoed that sentiment, calling the upcoming season a contemporary twist on the Salem story that promises to be the show’s most delicious chapter yet.

The decision to premiere the teaser during ‘The Vampire Lestat’ was far from a coincidence, given how directly this week’s episode ties into the larger Mayfair mythology. That episode introduced Merrick Mayfair, a member of the Mayfair family from Anne Rice’s novels who has yet to appear on her own show, as Louis and Lestat sought her help contacting their late daughter Claudia. The same episode even had Lestat casually mention having once been in a book club with Cortland Mayfair, tying the two shows together even further.

With filming having wrapped back in February, according to comments Schnauz shared on social media at the time, the show has clearly been in post-production for months while AMC waited for the right moment to reveal new footage. Pairing the reveal with a Mayfair connection already unfolding on screen in ‘The Vampire Lestat’ gave the studio a natural way to remind fans that this corner of the Immortal Universe is still very much alive. Exact premiere dates for 2027 have not yet been announced.
