Meet Mister Handsome: James Gunn Reveals Bizarre New Villain Created by Lex Luthor in ‘Superman’

So far, James Gunn’s Superman promos, including trailers, sneak peeks, and behind-the-scenes clips, have revealed a wide lineup of villains Clark Kent will face. Confirmed appearances include Lex Luthor, The Engineer, a Kaiju, Hammer of Boravia possibly Ultraman and a mysterious white alien.

We have no idea who or what the white alien is, but during the most recent talk with Fandango, James Gunn revealed that the White Alien was created by none other than Lex Luthor and his names is Mister Handsome.

“I remember your son’s favorite character,” Gunn said to Hoult, “it was Mr. Handsome.” Hoult then added that it was he and then Mr. Handsome.

“He kept talking about Mr. Handsome, he would be lying in bed, and then he’d be like “Dad, Mr. Handsome…” Hoult continued.

This is the part where James Gunn explains that Lex himself created him: “Mr. Handsome is Lex’s, you know, creature. He created a petri dish that drives around on this flying platform. The ugliest, grossest creature in the world.”

Gunn also added that for some reason, Hoult’s son was not the only kid on the set obsessed with the white alien

While not much was revealed about the character, at least we know that it’s Lex’s creature and that it will presumably truly go up against Superman. We also know that Lex dabbles heavily in science and is just as dangerous as any other version of Luthor we’ve seen in the movies so far.

Superman is scheduled to be theatrically released in the United States on July 11, 2025. It is set to be the first film of the DCU’s Chapter One: Gods and Monsters.
