‘Superman’ Movie Almost Had An Episodic Structure, Insider Claims

Superman is most certainly the most anticipated superhero release this summer. It is written and directed by James Gunn. It’s the first film in the new DC Universe made by DC Studios, and it serves as a reboot of the Superman series overall.
David Corenswet plays Superman with a supporting cast including Rachel Brosnahan, Nicholas Hoult, Edi Gathegi, Anthony Carrigan, Nathan Fillion, and Isabela Merced.
The story is about Superman trying to balance his life as an alien with his life on Earth and his human family.
Not much is known about the plot of the movie overall, and the reactions to the first test screenings are decent enough. However, as we are getting closer to the release of the movie, some behind-the-scenes details are being brought to life, mostly through rumors and industry insiders.
Now, Daniel Richtman confirmed that the movie initially had an episodic structure. This means the story was divided into parts like “Day 1,” “Day 2,” and so on. Each part showed what happened on a different day.
But later, they changed it. In the final version of the movie, they removed those day-by-day sections. Now, the story flows as one long, continuous movie without breaks.
Jeff Sneider shared the same thing a while ago during the Hot Mic Podcast with John Rocha.
The episodic structure made the tone and mood change from part to part. But the filmmaker later decided to change it. They wanted the story to be easier to follow and liked by more people. So they made it one smooth, flowing story instead.
James Gunn also reportedly removed the “days of the week” structure after hearing feedback from test audiences. That feedback also led to other big changes in the film.
