Capcom has officially confirmed that a brand-new Monster Hunter Stories game is on the way, and it’s coming to Nintendo’s Switch 2 next year. The game is called Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection, and it looks like it will take the series in an even bigger and more dramatic direction.

According to the official synopsis from Capcom, “Twin Rathalos born in a twist of fate. Their appearance sets the stage for a new tale of Riders and Rathalos to unfold.” That already hints at a mysterious and emotional story at the heart of the game.

Nintendo also shared more details, giving fans a better idea of what to expect. In their own description, they said, “Embark on a new adventure as a Rider living in harmony with monsters in the third instalment of the turn-based RPG series set in the world of Monster Hunter. Amidst an environmental calamity, a monster hatches, bearing a symbol of misfortune that drives two neighbouring kingdoms to war. The heirs of these two kingdoms venture into forbidden ground in search of the truth.”

That means this game isn’t just about battling monsters, it’s also about exploring a tense political conflict and uncovering the mystery behind a strange and possibly dangerous monster. Fans will once again take on the role of a Rider, someone who bonds with monsters and fights alongside them.

The Monster Hunter Stories series has always been a bit different from the main Monster Hunter games. Instead of real-time action battles, it focuses on turn-based combat and storytelling. The first game came out on the Nintendo 3DS back in 2016. Years later, it was brought over to the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and PC in 2024 so more people could experience it.

The second game, Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin, arrived in 2021 for Switch and PC, and later came to the PS4 in the same year. That sequel was well-received for its bigger world, deeper combat system, and more emotional story.

Another thing that makes this series stand out is its history with amiibo figures. Both the first and second game received their own special amiibo lines, which were highly sought after by collectors and fans. Right now, Capcom hasn’t said if Monster Hunter Stories 3 will get its own amiibo series, but given the tradition, it’s something fans are hoping for.

Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection will launch on Nintendo Switch 2 in 2026. With its mix of mystery, adventure, and monster-bonding action, it looks like it’s going to be a must-play for RPG fans and Monster Hunter lovers alike.
