‘My Adventures With Superman’ Season 3 Trailer Drops: Cyborg Superman and Superboy Are Here to Shake Up Metropolis
Few animated series on television right now carry the kind of devoted following that ‘My Adventures With Superman‘ has quietly built since its debut on Adult Swim. The Warner Bros. Animation production, which takes a younger, more emotionally grounded approach to Clark Kent’s early years alongside Lois Lane and Jimmy Olsen, earned a passionate fanbase across its first two seasons by blending sharp character work with an unmistakable anime-inspired aesthetic.
The show’s second season wrapped nearly two years ago, leaving fans with a considerable wait before knowing when the story would continue. That patience has now been rewarded, with Warner Bros. confirming the series is returning as part of the Toonami programming block. The arrival of a first trailer signals that the long stretch of silence is finally, officially over.
The new season is set to premiere on Adult Swim on Saturday, June 13 at midnight ET/PT, with episodes streaming the following day on HBO Max. The trailer, which just dropped, wastes no time on gentle setup. Official promo art and the trailer itself offer a first look at Cyborg Superman, who is the transformed version of Hank Henshaw first introduced in Season 2, and the character is notably sporting an “L” insignia that hints at Lex Luthor’s direct involvement.
Showrunner Jake Wyatt made clear to Entertainment Weekly that Hank Henshaw’s villainous evolution is front and center from the very beginning, saying “We’re Cyborg Superman right out the gate.” The season draws loose inspiration from the iconic nineties comic arc ‘Reign of the Supermen,’ though Wyatt has been equally clear that fans should not expect a straightforward retelling. As he explained in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the season is “less Death and more about, ‘What’s a Superman?’ The fun thing about Reign of the Supermen is that it’s all these impostors who have the same power set but different values.”
Joining the cast for Season 3 is Emmy-winning actor Darren Criss, who has been confirmed to voice Connor Kent, better known as Superboy. Criss brings genuine DC animation experience to the role, having previously voiced Superman himself in the Tomorrowverse films including ‘Superman: Man of Tomorrow.’ The show’s version of Superboy has also been adjusted from his comic counterpart, with Wyatt noting the character “is going to embody the tension between hope in the present and fear in the future.”
Steel, also known as John Henry Irons, will return this season though in a lighter capacity, with Wyatt hinting that a potential fourth season renewal could bring the character into a much larger role. Season 3 will also feature a light cameo from Jessica Cruz, who is set to headline the previously announced spinoff series ‘My Adventures with Green Lantern,’ currently in active development.
With Cyborg Superman arriving immediately, a re-imagined Superboy entering the picture, and the ‘Reign of the Supermen’ arc set to unfold on its own terms, Season 3 looks to be the most ambitious chapter yet. Whether you’ve been a fan since the beginning or are just now discovering the series, share your reaction to the trailer and whether you think this take on Cyborg Superman lives up to the menace of the original comics.
