Netflix Just Dropped Millie Bobby Brown and Louis Partridge’s Original ‘Enola Holmes’ Audition Tape, and Fans Are Losing It
‘Enola Holmes 3‘ has only been streaming for a few days, but Netflix already has fans looking backward instead of forward. With the third film wrapping up Enola and Tewkesbury’s long romantic arc, the streamer decided the perfect companion piece was a trip down memory lane rather than another trailer or clip.
That trip came in the form of something most viewers had never seen before. Netflix unearthed Millie Bobby Brown and Louis Partridge’s original chemistry read for the very first ‘Enola Holmes’ film, which debuted six years ago, and shared the adorable audition footage as part of its Tudum content push.
The clip shows two very young actors feeling each other out in a plain room, long before either of them knew Enola and Tewkesbury would become a six year, three film commitment.
Brown did not hold back on how instantly the casting clicked for her. “I do remember when Louis walked in, I was like, Oh my gosh, that’s Tewkesbury, that’s him,” she told Tudum, recalling that he “sat down, and he was very nervous, red cheeks, he’d just come from French class, he was still in his school uniform.”
From that point on, she says she felt in her heart that Partridge was the version of Tewkesbury she had always imagined.
How did you like 'Enola Holmes 3'?
Partridge remembers the room a little differently, at least from his side of the table. “I remember being intimidated, but director Harry Bradbeer was just being lovely, and Millie was really friendly,” he said, reflecting on how disarming the process turned out to be despite his nerves. It is a small detail, but it says a lot about how the partnership that anchors the franchise actually started.
That partnership has clearly aged well. Critics reviewing ‘Enola Holmes 3’ have pointed out that Brown and Partridge’s chemistry remains just as effortless now as it was in that first film, with one review calling their oceanside reconnection scene sincerely romantic and beautifully played. The film finds Enola and Tewkesbury attempting to marry in Malta before Sherlock’s disappearance derails everything, pulling the newly engaged couple into another dangerous case.
The timing of the throwback video is not an accident. With the ending of ‘Enola Holmes 3’ described by writer Jack Thorne as more of a comma than a full stop, Partridge has made clear his attachment to the role has not faded either, saying it has been a big part of his life for six years and that he will always feel an affinity toward the character.
For longtime fans, watching two nervous teenagers audition their way into what became one of Netflix’s most enduring franchise pairings hits differently now that the story has technically reached its latest chapter. It is the kind of full circle moment that makes you wonder what the two actors were really thinking in that room before anyone knew Enola and Tewkesbury would become this big.
Did seeing Millie Bobby Brown and Louis Partridge’s very first Enola and Tewkesbury audition change how you feel about their journey through all three films?
