Netflix is not done with the world of Stranger Things just yet. The streaming platform has officially renewed its animated spinoff, Stranger Things: Tales From ’85, for a second season..

The renewal comes only a few days after the first season premiered on April 23. The series is created by showrunner Eric Robles, with the Duffer Brothers serving as executive producers. It continues to expand the Stranger Things universe in animated form.

The story is set between the events of Seasons 2 and 3 of the original show. It takes place in the winter of 1985, when Hawkins is still dealing with the aftermath of past events and life seems a bit calmer on the surface.

In this version of the story, familiar characters like Eleven, Mike, Will, Dustin, Lucas, and Max are back to normal routines. They go to school, play games, and deal with everyday life again. But that calm does not last long.

An official synopsis explains that something strange is happening again in Hawkins. A new mystery starts to form under the town, and the group is pulled back into danger. The story hints at connections to the Upside Down, Hawkins Lab, and other unknown forces.

Showrunner Eric Robles spoke about the renewal in a statement. He said, “Working on Season 1 has been an incredibly rewarding experience. Now that it’s out in the world, seeing fans connect with these characters has been truly special… We’re thrilled to return to the winter of ’85 for Season 2. The Hawkins Investigators Club is back, and a new paranormal threat has emerged from the town’s abandoned silver mines.”

He also teased that the new season will continue building on the mystery introduced earlier in the series, including strange clues tied to the Upside Down.

Unlike the live-action series, none of the original cast members from Stranger Things return to voice their characters. Instead, the animated versions are played by a new voice cast. Returning voices include Brooklyn Davey Norstedt as Eleven, Luca Diaz as Mike, Benjamin Plessala as Will, Braxton Quinney as Dustin, Elisha “EJ” Williams as Lucas, Jolie Hoang-Rappaport as Max, and Odessa A’zion as a new character named Nikki.

Season 2 is expected to release in the fall, although Netflix has not given an exact date yet. The announcement comes shortly after the main Stranger Things series ended its five-season run, closing the chapter on the live-action story.

Despite that ending, interest in the franchise is still strong. Season 1 of Stranger Things: Tales From ’85 reached No. 7 on Netflix’s global Top 10 list with millions of views. It also became one of the platform’s most successful animated debuts.

This renewal shows Netflix is not ready to let go of this universe because the fan base is still very active. The animated format also gives the story more room to expand without relying on the original cast. Do you think this spinoff can stand on its own, or should the franchise have ended with the main series?
