New ‘Ahsoka’ Season 2 Image Offers a Fresh Look at Rosario Dawson’s Return

‘Ahsoka‘ fans have been waiting a long time for a follow-up to the first season’s cliffhanger ending, and that wait is finally starting to feel like it has an endpoint. Dave Filoni’s series left Ahsoka Tano and Sabine Wren stranded in the distant galaxy of Peridea, chasing Grand Admiral Thrawn and setting up a rescue mission for Ezra Bridger that fans have spent years anticipating the payoff for.

That payoff is now locked into a release window, with Disney confirming earlier this year that season 2 will premiere on Disney+ on January 20, 2027. Rosario Dawson herself helped announce the date, telling audiences at Disney’s Upfront showcase that “the battles are bigger and the stakes are higher” heading into the new season.

A fresh image from Empire magazine gives fans their clearest look yet at what that return will actually look like. The photo shows Dawson’s Ahsoka mounted on a large, shaggy, boar-like creature, lightsaber drawn and at the ready, set against the rugged, otherworldly terrain of Peridea, the same isolated galaxy where season 1 left her stranded.

That setting has reportedly gotten a significant production upgrade for the new season. Rather than relying primarily on Volume-based virtual sets, filming reportedly moved to the United Kingdom, where crews built large practical sets surrounded by blue screens to give Peridea’s alien landscape a more grounded, tactile feel than what audiences saw in season 1.

The story is expected to split across two major threads. On one side, Ahsoka and Sabine continue their pursuit through Peridea while being hunted by Shin Hati, a chase tied to the planet’s mysterious Mortis-linked mythology and building toward a confrontation with Baylan Skoll, now played by Rory McCann following the death of original actor Ray Stevenson. On the other, Grand Admiral Thrawn regroups Imperial remnants and Nightsister allies for a larger offensive against the New Republic, whose forces include Admiral Ackbar.

Hayden Christensen is also confirmed to return as Anakin Skywalker, continuing his role guiding and challenging Ahsoka from beyond, while Eman Esfandi comes back as Ezra Bridger following his long-awaited return to the main cast. Natasha Liu Bordizzo, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Lars Mikkelsen, and Ivanna Sakhno round out the returning ensemble, with familiar faces like Huyang, Chopper, and Garazeb “Zeb” Orrelios also expected to appear.

Filoni wrote all eight episodes of the new season himself and directed several alongside Bryce Dallas Howard, Jennifer Getzinger, and Anders Engström, continuing the hands-on approach that made the first season feel like a direct extension of his work on ‘Star Wars Rebels’ and ‘The Clone Wars.’ That continuity has been a major part of why fans have stayed so invested in Ahsoka’s story even through the long gap between seasons.
