New ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Standee Puts Black Panther, Thor and Yelena Front and Center in China
Marvel’s promotional machine has been rolling out region-specific art for ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ as the release date closes in. Few markets matter more to a mega-blockbuster than China, so it is no surprise that the studio is investing in eye-catching displays there. The latest example is a towering cardboard cutout that has fans taking a closer look at who Marvel is putting up front.
China has a special history with the franchise. When ‘Avengers: Endgame’ arrived in 2019, it earned roughly $575.8 million in China alone during its first 11 days of release. Disney is clearly hoping ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ can recapture some of that magic, and early ticketing numbers suggest there is real appetite.
On Maoyan, China’s largest online ticketing platform, the film’s want-to-see count stood at 253,000 at 69 days before release, closing in on the 264,000 that ‘Endgame’ reached at the same point. Against that backdrop, a new ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ standee has surfaced showing Black Panther, Thor and Yelena Belova standing shoulder to shoulder.

The display features Black Panther in a sleek suit with glowing detailing, Chris Hemsworth’s Thor in his cape with his hammer at his side, and Yelena Belova in a dark tactical outfit. Below them sits a rocky, broken base carrying the Marvel Studios logo, the Chinese title and a bold December 16 date. The Chinese title translates to ‘Avengers 5’, and the artwork pairs the date with a line announcing a global early release.
That trio is a telling mix. Chris Hemsworth returns as Thor, Letitia Wright is confirmed as Shuri and Black Panther, and Florence Pugh returns as Yelena Belova after her turn in ‘Thunderbolts’. Together they bring Asgard, Wakanda and the Thunderbolts crowd onto a single display.
The date is not a printing error. Disney has confirmed that ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ will open in Chinese theaters on December 16, two days ahead of the December 18 release in the United States. China is also expected to be one of the few international markets to screen the film in IMAX.
Reports say the window is helped by ‘Dune: Part Three’ being pushed to December 31 in China, which clears premium screens for Marvel. Chinese posters have already leaned into the early date, with a separate poster showing Doctor Doom looming over a huge lineup of heroes.
China is not alone in getting an early look. Disney confirmed the UK opening has moved up to December 16, and India will receive the film on December 17 in English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu. Several other countries have also been listed ahead of the US debut, which has some fans joking about going offline for a few days.
For the studio, an early start in major territories builds momentum while keeping the December 18 date as the flagship launch. It also raises the stakes for spoilers, since audiences abroad will see the film before American viewers do.

Directed by the Russo brothers, the film brings together the Avengers, the Wakandans, the Fantastic Four, the New Avengers and the X-Men to face Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom. Downey is playing a new role as the villain after his years as Iron Man. The movie was previously set for May 1, 2026, before Disney moved it to December.
The cast list is enormous, including Pedro Pascal as Mister Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Simu Liu and Tom Hiddleston alongside the heroes on the standee. The follow-up, ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’, is scheduled for December 17, 2027.
With so many characters competing for attention, the choice of who appears on promotional material becomes a story in itself. Putting Black Panther, Thor and Yelena together on a high-visibility display in one of the world’s biggest film markets sends a clear message about how Marvel wants audiences to feel heading into December.
