New Look at Milly Alcock as Supergirl Revealed in New Image
A new image from the upcoming DC Universe film “Supergirl” has surfaced, giving fans another early glimpse at Milly Alcock in the role.
The film is part of DC Studios’ expanding lineup and is currently scheduled for a theatrical release on June 26, according to Warner Bros. Pictures and DC Studios materials.
The project is directed by Craig Gillespie and written by Ana Nogueira. It serves as the second official film in the new DC Universe, led by James Gunn and Peter Safran. Alcock plays Kara Zor-El / Supergirl, a character closely tied to Superman but with a very different personal history and outlook.
The story follows Kara as she travels across space with her dog Krypto. Along the way, she meets a young girl named Ruthye Marye Knoll. Their encounter leads to a tragedy that pushes Kara into a violent journey driven by revenge, according to the film’s official premise shared by the studio.
The film has gone through several development stages. A Supergirl project was first discussed in 2018 under the previous DC Extended Universe plan. The character was later briefly introduced in 2023’s “The Flash,” played by Sasha Calle. After changes in leadership at DC Studios in 2022, the project was reworked into a new version based on the comic miniseries “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow” by Tom King and Bilquis Evely.
Casting and production moved forward in 2023 and 2024. Milly Alcock was chosen for the lead role in early 2024, with Craig Gillespie joining as director soon after. Filming took place between January and May 2025 at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden in England, as well as locations in London and Scotland.
Alongside Alcock, the cast includes Matthias Schoenaerts as Krem of the Yellow Hills, a dangerous leader of a space criminal group, and Eve Ridley as Ruthye Marye Knoll. David Krumholtz and Emily Beecham play Kara’s parents, Zor-El and Alura In-Ze. David Corenswet appears as Superman, and Jason Momoa takes on the role of Lobo, a space bounty hunter. Other supporting roles include Ferdinand Kingsley, Diarmaid Murtagh, and the return of Krypto the Superdog.
James Gunn has described this version of Supergirl as a more hardened and emotional character compared to Superman. He has called her “pixie-ish, but very attitudinal,” while also noting that she is written as an antihero in this story. That tone is expected to set her apart from earlier portrayals of the character.
The film is part of DC Studios’ “Chapter One: Gods and Monsters” slate. According to Warner Bros., it is intended to expand the new shared universe and introduce a different tone for Kryptonian storytelling within the franchise.
With production now complete and post-production underway, the newly released image adds to growing anticipation around how this version of Supergirl will be presented on the big screen when it arrives in 2026.
