A new Spyro game called “Spyro: A Realm Beyond” has officially been revealed. The announcement took place at the Xbox Games Showcase, where a short teaser trailer was also shown. This marks the first brand new Spyro game in almost 20 years, making it a major return for the long-running character.

The game is being developed by Toys for Bob, the studio known for its work on previous Spyro titles and Crash Bandicoot games. The studio recently became independent after leaving Activision in 2024, ending a 19-year period under the publisher. It is now working closely with Xbox as a partner on this new project.

The teaser trailer showed a calm countryside being taken over by a growing darkness. New small creatures appear in the world, and a new threat seems to be rising. Spyro is then shown entering the scene, moving quickly across the ground before taking flight. He is able to aim and move through different parts of the environment while flying.

Developers explained that flight will be an important part of the gameplay. Spyro will be able to take off at almost any time, and players will be able to explore both on the ground and in the air. Movement will include actions like flapping wings, using fire breath to interact with objects, and diving to gain speed.

The developers also said the game may not follow a strict structure, but they have not confirmed whether it will be fully open world or level-based. They explained that the goal is to make the game easy for new players to enjoy while still respecting older Spyro games. According to them, the team wants to bring back a calm and simple feeling from the original series.

Tom Kenny, who originally voiced Spyro in the classic trilogy, is confirmed to return as the voice of the character. Developers also said they want to acknowledge the past games, but they have not shared specific story details yet. One of the developers said they want to “honour what has come before,” but did not go into further explanation.

The game is being built using Unreal Engine 5. Developers also mentioned that this project could be the start of more Spyro games in the future, although their current focus is on finishing this release first.

“Spyro: A Realm Beyond” is scheduled to release in Spring 2027. It will launch on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and Series S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC. The game will also support Xbox Play Anywhere, allowing players to access it across supported Xbox and PC platforms.
