New ‘VisionQuest’ Clip Puts Vision’s Grief Over Wanda Front and Center

Marvel’s ‘VisionQuest‘ was always going to carry emotional baggage. The Disney+ series serves as the final chapter in the trilogy that began with ‘WandaVision’ and continued with ‘Agatha All Along’, and it hands Paul Bettany’s android the lead for the first time. Every conversation about the show eventually circles back to one name.

That name is Wanda Maximoff. The first trailer opened with Vision in his human form working in a pub, where a co-worker recalls when he used to come in all the time with that redhead, a reference to Wanda. It was a quiet way of saying that the story, however much it belongs to Vision, is still shaped by the woman he left behind in Westview.

A new clip from the series, running 1 minute and 5 seconds, now leans straight into that wound. It shows Vision in a pinstripe suit inside a dimly lit, book-lined room, visibly shaken, repeating the words “I lost Wanda” over and over. Marvel Studios released the footage, and it plays as an unusually raw character moment for a series that also promises Ultron, AI companions and plenty of spectacle.

The clip lines up with what Bettany has said about the show. Speaking to Buro 24/7 alongside Ruaridh Mollica, he discussed how Wanda’s absence continues to shape Vision and Tommy. Tommy carries memories of Wanda while learning about her through his father’s perspective, and Bettany made clear that she will always be part of Vision’s world.

The actor has also described the series as “the end” of this chapter of Wanda and Vision’s relationship. He has called it a really good end to the trilogy that honors what ‘WandaVision’ was to people, and has said the show explores intergenerational pain with lasers and a lot of jokes. In other words, the grief in the clip is the point.

The obvious question is whether Elizabeth Olsen turns up. Olsen said she didn’t know anything about ‘VisionQuest’ until she spent time with Bettany shortly before the interview, and she did not confirm a return as Wanda. Bettany, for his part, was asked directly about a cameo by Entertainment Tonight and refused to confirm Wanda’s appearance, calling it a secret.

That coy answer has kept speculation alive. Bettany promised that the series features major surprises, cameos and Easter eggs, but nothing has been confirmed. Marvel’s habit of surprise reveals means fans aren’t ready to rule anything out.

The series has plenty else to offer. Ultron is once again voiced by James Spader, who also appears in human form. Ruaridh Mollica plays Tommy Maximoff, while the cast also includes T’Nia Miller as Jocasta, James D’Arcy as J.A.R.V.I.S., Orla Brady as F.R.I.D.A.Y., Emily Hampshire as E.D.I.T.H. and Todd Stashwick as Paladin.

Bettany has teased that the show takes viewers inside Vision’s mind, which he described as more cluttered than expected, adding that Vision has been copying and preserving other AIs inside his head. Earlier footage showed human versions of Ultron, J.A.R.V.I.S., F.R.I.D.A.Y. and E.D.I.T.H.

The road to this clip was a long one. Marvel released the first trailer exclusively to fans at New York Comic Con, where Bettany later said the room went crazy. A trailer and poster followed at D23, where Bettany, Spader and Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige appeared on stage to reveal them.

Bettany has also said the show speaks to anyone who has ever felt like an outsider, and that it is about someone trying to find out who he is. That theme gives the heartbreak in the new clip extra weight, since Vision’s search for identity is tangled up with the person he loved.

‘VisionQuest’ premiered on Disney+ on Oct. 14 as an 8-episode series. It also arrives with big questions about the future, because Bettany has said he thinks Vision will appear in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ or ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’. If that proves true, the emotional groundwork laid here could carry straight into Marvel’s biggest crossover.
