Nintendo Switch 2 Shatters Console Launch Records with Over 3 Million Units Sold in a Day
The Nintendo Switch 2 might have just made history. According to a new report, it sold more consoles in 24 hours than any other console ever has. The hype before launch was already massive, but the actual numbers are even more surprising.
Nintendo Prime, through Paul Gale, shared that “I have now heard from 3 independent people that Nintendo has globally shifted over 3 million Switch 2 units.” That’s not even counting sales from today or the weekend. If that’s true, it’s already blown past every launch record out there.
Just to understand how big that is — the PlayStation 4 held the 24-hour sales record before, with just over 1 million units sold. That’s less than half of what the Switch 2 may have sold in the same time. And when looking at total sales over two months, the record was about 4.5 million units, held by the PS5 and PS4. The Switch 2 could beat that number in just a few days.

Even with all this demand, there are reports of stores still having Switch 2 units available. That’s likely because Nintendo was ready for this and made sure to ship enough consoles. Some shops even had signs prepared in case they ran out of stock.
The first Switch was already a big hit, and it looks like the second one is off to an even faster start. Even though it’s more expensive and some users have reported issues — like problems with the new Joy-Con controllers or people doing weird stuff like stapling holes through the device, none of that seems to be stopping sales.
The Switch 2 launch might be one of the biggest moments in gaming history. No other console has come close to this kind of start.
