Jennifer Lopez has shared an honest opinion about the kind of movies she enjoys, saying that one Oscar-winning film simply is not her taste. The comments came during her appearance on Brett Goldstein’s podcast Films to Be Buried With, where guests are asked about the films that have shaped their lives.

During the conversation, Lopez was asked about the “worst film” she has ever seen. Instead of giving a harsh answer, she clarified that the movie she chose is not bad, but just not something she connects with. She named Nomadland, the 2020 film directed by Chloé Zhao that won several Academy Awards including Best Picture and Best Actress for Frances McDormand.

Lopez explained her opinion carefully, saying, “It’s hard to say ‘worst’ because it’s a beautiful film.” However, she added that it is not the kind of film she goes to the cinema to watch. She described it as a slow, emotional story focused on grief and personal struggle.

She said, “It’s just not for me.” Lopez explained that she prefers films that offer entertainment and escapism, such as musicals, romantic comedies, and thrillers. She said that while she understands the value of serious drama, it simply does not match her personal taste in movies.

Lopez also added, “It’s a slow-moving thing about grief and there’s no escapism to it. And I do like some movies like that… but that one I just didn’t.”

The actress made it clear that her comments were not meant as criticism of the film’s quality or success. She praised Frances McDormand’s performance and acknowledged the film’s achievements. She said McDormand’s work was strong and deserved recognition, adding that there was no surprise the film received major awards.

She said, “She deserves all the Oscars. But I just didn’t enjoy it. It’s just not for me.”

Lopez also discussed how her personal taste in films has always leaned toward more energetic and entertaining genres. She mentioned classic musicals and feel-good movies as examples of what she enjoys most. For her, cinema is often about escape and emotion in a lighter form.

During the podcast, host Brett Goldstein responded by pointing out that Lopez simply prefers not to watch heavy emotional stories. Lopez agreed with that idea and said, “I just don’t wanna watch them.” She compared it to how she also avoids horror films, saying she prefers not to engage with that kind of content either.

The conversation was part of a wider discussion about her career and current projects. Lopez was appearing alongside Goldstein to promote their film Office Romance, a romantic comedy directed by Ol Parker. The film has added another lighthearted role to her long list of romantic comedy performances, a genre she has been closely associated with throughout her career.

She also touched briefly on how audiences have different tastes and how that shapes what films become popular. Lopez emphasized that even if a movie is highly praised, it does not mean every viewer will connect with it in the same way.

Her comments reflect a simple point: personal taste matters. While Nomadland was widely celebrated and won major awards, Lopez made it clear that she prefers films that feel more uplifting and entertaining to her own sensibilities.
