The DC Universe is in the middle of one of its busiest stretches yet, with James Gunn and Peter Safran steadily rolling out their Chapter One slate to audiences. After the success of ‘Superman’ last year, the studio has kept up a relentless pace, and that momentum shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon.

‘Supergirl’ is currently lighting up theaters, marking another major milestone for the rebooted DCU under Gunn and Safran’s leadership. With Milly Alcock’s Kara Zor El now front and center, fans have been eager to see how this new chapter fits into the larger plan for the shared universe moving forward.

Beyond ‘Supergirl’, the slate keeps growing, with ‘Lanterns’ arriving on HBO Max and ‘Clayface’ set for a fall release. Looking further ahead, attention naturally turns to ‘Man of Tomorrow’, the highly anticipated ‘Superman’ sequel that has become one of the most talked about projects in the entire DCU pipeline.

It was during a conversation around these very projects that Safran offered a glimpse into how DC Studios is thinking about the future. Safran addressed when the next chapter of the DCU will actually start taking shape, tying it directly to the progress of ‘Man of Tomorrow’. He said, “When James Gunn is done with Man of Tomorrow, I think we’ll really sit down and talk about what is the next part of the story looks like. We have a pretty good sense of what’s happening for at least the next couple of years.”

That comment lines up with other recent remarks from Safran, who has been fielding plenty of questions about where the DCU goes once its currently announced projects wrap up. During an interview, the DC Studios co-CEO was asked whether the Justice League is properly coming to the DCU, and he responded by listing out the projects that have already been confirmed, including ‘Supergirl’, ‘Lanterns’, ‘Clayface’, ‘Man of Tomorrow’, and ‘The Batman Part II’.

That same conversation also touched on Batman’s eventual arrival in the DCU through ‘Batman, The Brave and the Bold’, as well as a previously unconfirmed Gorilla Grodd series for HBO that Safran seemingly let slip is set to begin filming this year. Fans quickly latched onto these comments as further proof that DC Studios is methodically building toward something bigger, even if the timeline remains under wraps for now.

What stands out most is the framing Safran used when discussing the future. Rather than treating the next phase as some distant, undefined idea, he made it sound like DC Studios already has a roadmap in place, with ‘Man of Tomorrow’ acting as the turning point where those bigger conversations can finally begin in earnest.

For a fanbase that has spent years wondering when the pieces of the DCU will start coming together, this kind of comment carries real weight. It suggests that once ‘Man of Tomorrow’ wraps, audiences could start hearing concrete details about where the DCU goes from there, rather than vague teases about long term plans.

With ‘Man of Tomorrow’ currently slated for next year, fans now have a clearer sense of the timeline for when DC Studios might start opening up about what comes after. Until then, the DCU continues to expand at a steady pace, giving fans plenty to dig into while they wait for the next big reveal.

What do you think the next chapter of the DCU should focus on once ‘Man of Tomorrow’ wraps. Let us know in the comments.
