Pierce Brosnan on the M Fancasts: "Really? That’s nuts."

As you know, the James Bond franchise is moving in a new direction under Amazon’s control. We still don’t know how everything will play out, but there are a lot of rumors floating around, which makes the debates all the more interesting.

Along the rumors, there are also numerous fan theories about possible new characters and you’ve probably come across many fans who believe that Pierce Brosnan, who played Agent 007 at one point, should be cast as M. Now, the actor has responded to these claims.

M is an exceptionally important character in the franchise. As the head of the MI6, M is Bond’s superior and is in charge of running the whole operation. The character has been portrayed by several actors over the years, and they are Bernard Lee (1962–1979), John Huston (1967), David Niven (1967), Edward Fox (1983), Robert Brown (1983–1989), Judi Dench (1995–2015), and Ralph Fiennes (2012–present).

Some of these were in non-Eon films and while Fiennes is still the canonical M, this will probably change once Amazon reorganizes the whole franchise.

Fans have, of course, been speculating about the possible successor of Fiennes, and among the proposed names was a former Bond actor, Pierce Brosnan. In a recent interview, he commented on the situation:

“Really? That’s nuts. Oh for God’s sake, let’s see where the wind takes us. … My wife tells me some of this stuff, about the buzz going on here and there, but she hadn’t told me that one.”

As you can see, it doesn’t seem likely, but Brosnan had a very funny and somewhat open-minded approach to the question, so we might be in for a surprise.
