PR Expert Reveals Whether Sydney Sweeney’s Spicy ‘Euphoria’ Scenes Could Hurt Her Career
Sydney Sweeney has become one of the biggest young stars in Hollywood, but her work in HBO’s Euphoria continues to spark debate online. Since the third season premiered in April, much of the attention around Sweeney has focused on the show’s explicit scenes and the way her character, Cassie, has been portrayed.
While the series keeps dominating social media conversations, some industry experts believe the constant focus on sexuality could eventually affect how audiences and Hollywood view her career.
According to Fox News Digital, crisis and reputation management expert Dave Quast believes Euphoria played a major role in turning Sweeney into a household name. He explained that her performance helped establish her as a fearless actress willing to fully commit to difficult and emotional scenes. However, he also warned that public attention can sometimes shift away from the acting itself.
“The risk is that when the public conversation focuses more on the sexualized aspects of the role than on the performance, the same work that made her seem daring can start to narrow the brand,” Quast said.
Sweeney’s character Cassie has become one of the most talked-about parts of the new season. The storyline reportedly dives deeper into explicit content and OnlyFans-style material, leading to heavy discussion online. Some viewers have criticized the show and claimed certain scenes go too far. Others argue the series is still giving Sweeney some of the strongest dramatic material on television.
Another PR and branding expert, Kelcey Kintner from Red Banyan, told Fox News Digital that the biggest issue is not sexuality itself, but the way audiences react to it. She explained that if every headline surrounding Sweeney focuses only on provocative scenes or viral moments, it becomes harder for people to recognize the full range of her acting abilities.
“If every headline is about her body, the showy scenes, or how provocative the role is, that can make it harder for the public to actually focus on and see her talent,” Kintner explained.

Still, both experts agreed that the attention has helped Sweeney in the short term. In today’s entertainment industry, online visibility is extremely valuable, and Euphoria continues to generate massive conversation every week. Viral clips, shocking scenes, and controversial storylines spread quickly across social media, keeping both the show and its stars constantly in the spotlight.
Quast pointed out that the real challenge for Sweeney now is balancing that attention with stronger dramatic roles outside of Euphoria. He believes her future projects will play a huge role in shaping how people view her career moving forward.
“She doesn’t need to run away from sexuality, but she does need to keep pairing it with roles that are emotionally, intellectually or dramatically specific,” he said.
The conversation around Sweeney also goes beyond acting. According to Quast, online culture has started turning her into a larger symbol in wider debates around celebrity image and branding. That can sometimes distract from the actual performances.
At the same time, Sweeney has already started building a film career outside of Euphoria. Projects like Immaculate, Americana, The Housemaid, and Christy have shown a different side of her acting range. But experts say those performances often receive less attention compared to the viral moments from HBO’s hit series.
For now, Sweeney remains one of Hollywood’s fastest-rising stars. The bigger question is whether audiences will continue seeing her as a serious actress first, or mainly as the face of one of television’s most controversial shows.
